Many Canadians aren’t used to this degree of cold either; these are subarctic temperatures. At home in the Okanagan it doesn’t get much colder than -5C, so it’s a lot warmer.
Yes. About -18C (-1F) right now, but it will go down to -30C (-22F) in the next month. It IS beautiful and people who love outdoor winter activities really enjoy it here.
We are at about -18C (-1F) and we have had a bit of up and down, but it’s definitely beginning to settle into temperature drop-off now. It will get a lot colder!
Thank you very much. We are getting at least some snow every day, so it’s collecting at a rapid rate, and the north is so beautiful in the winter. Glad to hear that you’re getting that festive feel!
I used to live in southern Alberta, in Medicine Hat, and I usually experienced 2-3 weeks of -35 in late December and early January. Here it goes on for much longer and it’s much more intensely cold. -45 isn’t unusual in the subarctic. Breathing in that cold air is an experience. The lungs get a bit of a shock!
Beautiful. Feels so still… 🙂

It was. No wind, just quite cold at -18C. It will get a lot colder in the next month or so.

Oh dear that’s cold, for us in the UK anyway. Take care and stay warm 🙂

Yes, it has. Winter is the north’s best season. It is at its most beautiful and intriguing (and dangerous, too) in my opinion.

What are you driving, there? Must have good ground clearance –

An F150. The clearance is pretty good, but those ruts look somewhat deeper than they actually were.

Wintry and fresh! I have experienced -35c in Alberta and vividly recall how strange it feels to breathe in such cold air.
