This is a lovely post from Cindy Knoke, but additionally you should read her ALERT at the end of the post about the WP glitch regarding “unfollows.” Apparently many bloggers are suddenly unfollowing without knowing that it’s happening.

The unfollows thing is part of why I don’t use the WP ecosystem for following blogs. I use an independent Reader (similar to the old Google Reader) called InoReader. That way I can follow more than just WP blogs – other platforms as well as say, news aggregate sites, etc. I still have to visit to click the like, but at least the visit is registered for people’s stats. 🙂

The “unfollow” problem is really irritating. I haven’t had it happen recently but when it does I have to backtrack to find the blogs I’m missing. Thanks for the suggestion about the independent reader; sounds like a good solution. 🙂 I love how you describe WP as an ecosystem – good interpretation!
