This poor little guy was wind-blown into the house a couple of evenings ago.
He seemed to bounce and then landed on the roof of my truck. He initially didn’t look very well but was moving about.
I kept an eye on him and about 20 minutes later, he flew away. I was quite concerned about him because ravens would consider him to be a tasty snack. They are huge, aggressive, and smart.
Happily, he was able to recover before the ravens realised he was there.
A win for the ptarmigans. Maybe, a covid-mitigating win for all of us is coming soon.

Poor little guy. It shows that even if you are built for the climate, you sometimes struggle. If he lay down and closed his eyes, he would disappear in all that snow. Thanks for sharing Lynette. Allan

Oh yes, that’s so true. When I first went to check on what the noise was, he had his back to me and I almost didn’t see him (it was snowing pretty steadily, too). I spotted him when he moved and then I saw one of his eyes.

Aww, poor guy. Glad he was able to recover. Looks like you’ve got a lot of snow! None accumulated here yet, but boy was it blustery. Ominous winds howled through the windows all weekend.

Yes, I felt so bad for him. He really looked stunned and I was afraid that the ravens would come after him.
We do have a lot of snow. I have already done a lot of shovelling. It was really blowing today – very nasty. Try to stay out of those ominous winds and keep warm! 🙂

From the picture, I thought it was a bird covered in snow – like, maybe it should have moved around a bit more? (I never heard of a ptarmigan before, had to look it up!)

A snowbird sculpture? 😉 They are very white and blend in so well; it’s hard to see them when they’re on the ground. I’m so glad the ravens didn’t find him. 🙂

Actually, it’s not dire yet. It will get much colder than this as it’s only about -12C. I suppose it’s all relative, right? 😉
I’m glad the little ptarmigan got away; the ravens here are always on the lookout.

Yes, they can be very difficult to see when they’re wearing their winter outfit.
Yup, lots of snow and more has come down since I took that photo last Friday. 😳

Wow!! I hope you’ll take a pictures of it! We have no snow here in Toronto. The temperature is finally starting to cool down though (from 20C last week!!).

20° last week? Wow! I’m kind of jealous as we’re not going to see 20 again until June. It will be a long haul through the NWT winter and the covid restrictions. I’m looking forward to a hopeful spring. 🙂
