An Autumn Whisper

I took a very enjoyable walk near Great Slave Lake and realised that it’s now autumn.

Autumn lake.

I can’t put my finger on what is different, but the sun is different, the air is different, the clouds are different and the tone is different.

Warm, windless and lovely, the day seemed to be taking one of its last deep breaths of summer before its sound and heavy rest; I felt as if it was holding off winter with one hand while gifting us with these few remaining hours of perfection.

Carpe diem. 🙂

  2. I thought the same thing a few days ago while out on the lake on my last camping trip for the season. The days are getting shorter and the nights cooler. I am looking forward to when the leaves start to change colours though.

    1. Right? It just suddenly turns, and it might not even be very much cooler. So quick but also so subtle. I would love to see the leaves change as they do in the Okanagan. Here in the north it’s very fast – the leaves are yellow one day and they’re gone the next.

  3. Fall is so generous with the beautiful clouds. Great shot Lynette. Yes, fall is in the air. Always wondered what this meant when my Father said it. Now, I say it too. There is a definite switch flip when summer ends and that is seldom as late as the official end of summer in this neck of the woods. Thanks for sharing. Allan

    1. Thank, Allan. Yes, that old saying is so accurate! Fall is just “in the air.” One second it’s summer, the next it’s fall. Yes, it’s early here in the north, as you can imagine. The Okanagan is different. My M will be there into Oct or Nov and it’s been averaging 30° still.

  5. Love the poetic metaphors about summer, fall & winter. For me, I put my finger on why it seems fall is edging in . . . the days are shorter.

    We’ve had a dry, hot summer here, and the last few days have finally gotten comfortable. Not cool or cold, but just right. We’ve been short on rain and have faced a bit of a drought. Of course, now this week it’s all coming at once. Raining today, and it’s supposed to rain most of the week.

    Not that you care about our weather. I think I’m just “chatty” this morning. Thanks for sharing the lovely words and photo.

      Yes, the days are getting shorter here, too, but because we’re so far north, our days are still relatively long. Won’t last, though; I’ll be griping about that soon!

      It has been wetter which has helped to keep the fires down.

  8. Lovely shot!
    I know what you mean — there’s just a different feel in the air. I’ve noticed some of the maple trees are showing a hint of rust color on their tips and the geese are flying in formation. It’s nearly time!

      I love fall make trees. They are so beautiful. Fall can be such a lovely season. It’s so short here in Northwest Territories, though; it will be over in the next couple of weeks.
