Ice Fog

One of the most beautiful winter phenomena

is ice fog. It occurs in wind-still conditions when water droplets in the air become supercooled.

It can be dangerous for travelling but if you don’t have to go anywhere, it’s beautiful to see.

Winter’s greetings. πŸ™‚

  1. We have not seen any ice fog here yet this year. I always look forward to the hoar frost results the next morning, especially when the sun shines. Cheers. Allan

  2. We just had a round of this here last week. We were lucky that it didn’t really impact the roads much, but we got such a stunning landscape for several hours before the sun popped out. I think frozen fog is one of my favorite weather events because of the beauty it leaves behind. Ice storms that coat everything and leave the world looking like a crystal play land ranks right up there in beauty, but those are so rarely not dangerous and damaging.

    1. Yes, these weather phenomena are really beautiful but quite often dangerous and/or damaging. Perhaps that’s one of the things that make them dangerous – the idea that something so lovely can’t be anything but benign.
