Some Sun …
… arrived!
It’s still very soggy – you can’t have all that rain and then dry out quickly – but it was so nice to see a little sun.
We’re supposed to get some more tomorrow – wow! – sun two days in a row!
I plan to enjoy it as much as I can, especially that I’m beginning to feel better, too.

Rain Break
The almost continuous rain that we have been getting – although nothing like the inundation that the coast is presently experiencing – stopped for a bit during my afternoon ramble which made picture collecting a bit easier. Here’s a bit of what I saw.
A backlit pine cone …
… some very calm water highlighted by the merest hint of sky-pink as the blue hour settled in …
… and some lovely water reflections of both the sky and the city lights …
… while in the meantime the rhododendron buds await spring.

Sunny Skaha Lake
After 25 cm (9.8 inches) of rain recently fell on us, we had a beautifully sunny day.
For a change of scene I had a ramble at Skaha Lake, which is at the south end of the city.
It was 10C (50F) and windless, so walking conditions were pretty nice.
I encountered a group a students with their teacher who were happily enjoying a weenie roast on the beach after they had completed a hike. They were having a great time.
It was wonderful to have a break from the rain and I enjoyed every second.

Two Lakes, Two Days
A couple of days ago we enjoyed a beautiful autumn afternoon stop at Vaseux Lake which is 27 km (17 mi) to the south of us. It really was nice enough to have dawdled on the beach.
A couple of days later we experienced a different kind of beauty. It was cooler in a very familiar autumnal way and also a bit blustery, but the sky was so arresting with its layered cloud formations.

September Beach
We are still experiencing relatively high temperatures of 30-35C (86-95F) and as a result the beaches remain very busy as people try to cool off or just enjoy the last bits of summer before it drifts gently into autumn.
The evenings are very pleasant and the beaches still inviting as people continue to enjoy them after dark and even swimming in the summer-warm lake.

Thunderstorm Skies
We have been getting lots of thunderstorm warnings recently and certainly they have been all around us with their distant rumbling and even their high winds and rains, but nothing directly up until now. The skies they produce however can be quite amazing as they roil past us. It’s worth noting that I haven’t made any adjustments to the colour of these photos; this is just as the camera (and I) saw those clouds.
The sunset reflects off the white cumulus features of these water-laden clouds …
… spreading an almost eerie glow throughout the whole area …
… that briefly intensified as more towering cumulonimbus clouds moved in. An oddly beautiful sight, but one to be respected.

More Rain
We have been experiencing a rainier, cooler than usual summer punctuated by hot days where the temperature reaches 37 or 38 (98.6-100.4 F). A rainy night makes for comfortable morning constitutionals, however.
These clouds were moving into the north after being pushed out by …
… quite strong and gusty winds from the east. Surface easterly winds are unusual here since they have to make it past a number of mountain ranges in order to arrive, but I noticed that this one seemed to have quite a lot of altitude, too, probably about 3000 metres (approx 10,000 ft).
As the day wore on – and more clouds moved back in – our resident bald eagles weren’t too concerned as they perched in their favourite lookout tree to survey their territory. Some jostling from the winds didn’t stop them from having one of their regular, affectionate chats.

Summer Evening Sky
We’re in the middle of a hot spell right now with 38C (100.4F) or thereabouts for the next several days. While it’s a dry heat, I prefer to get any outside activities completed before 10:00 a.m. or so, but we are also getting beautiful evening skies that cool off to a much more comfortable 23 or 24 (73 – 75 F).
Sitting outside on a cooling evening with a great scene in front of you is a wonderful thing.
