Lovely photos. I especially like the long grasses.

Thank you very much, Liz. They turn that lovely brownish colour in winter.

They are very distinctive in their black and white outfits. 😊

The Goldeneye is beautiful, although the name sounds like a character from a superhero comic. 😊

Hahaha. 😊 I think there was a James Bond movie called Goldeneye from the 70s or so. I never saw it, so I don’t know if ducks played a central role. 😉

Oh, I think you’re right, but I never saw it either. Maybe the ducks were the inspiration for the name..😊

Maybe! Wouldn’t a spoof be great? 😊 The name’s Quack. Quintin Quack. And I prefer my ponds stirred, not shaken. 😉

Thanks, Allan. Yes, they are veerrry fancy. They don’t hang out with the mallards at all. No slumming for them. 😉

Lovely photos, Lynette, the Golden Eye ducks must have larger brains, the tall head proves it. 🤭🤭

Thank you, John. 😊 Hahaha. 😊 Tall yes, but also full of feathers. 😉

Thank you very much, Pepper. The grasses are lovely to see in winter when most everything else is awaiting spring. Cheers.

Lynette, I loved the description of the Golden Eye ducks as being dressed in their tuxedo – how apt! I’ve never seen any before and they look slightly odd compared to the normal ducks. We have many of the latter in the nature reserve close to our home and this morning they were walking rather forlornly on the ice, looking rather bemused! 😀

Thank you very much, Annika. 😊 These are common goldeneye ducks; there is another sub-type called Barrow’s goldeneye that also wears a tuxedo. Theirs is a bit fancier, though. 😊 Both types are found in Canada. Our mallards haven’t had much ice to contend with at all; normally we have some so I know what you mean! Agreed, they always look so forlorn.

Nice goldeneye photos, Lynette. I love their feather design on the sides by their wings.

Thank you very much, Belinda. 😊 They definitely were. I tried to get a photo of them as they dived under the water but they were too quick. They use their wings like paddles which I found interesting. Cheers.
