Snowy Lake Louise

This very famous lake in Banff National Park also gives its name to the historic Chateau Lake Louise hotel as well as to the hamlet where many park and hotel employees live.

Known for its milky green colour – caused by glacial run-off – and nearby hiking trails, Lake Louise is an example of iconic, must-see Canadiana.

And, to all our American family and friends, Happy Thanksgiving Day. However you choose to spend it, I hope you enjoy it.

  1. Wow! Not a view most of us get. Great shot of it. I take it this was a small plane you were piloting? Commercial airlines never seem that low even as you hit the Rockies.

    1. We had great weather that day, sunny and not much wind, either. Actually, my passenger took that photo for me. Yes, this is a small private plane and we were flying much lower than a commercial airline ever would (and able to do a bit of circling, too!). Cheers.

    1. Yes, it truly is a stunner and every time I’ve visited it has been very peaceful. Thank you very much for the Thanksgiving wishes but ours here in Canada was six weeks ago. My apologies; that was probably a bit confusing as I was wishing our American neighbours a happy one. Cheers.

  2. Such a beautiful post! Lake Louise truly embodies the magic of nature — its glacial green waters and majestic surroundings make it one of the most iconic treasures of Canada. I love how you’ve captured not just the scenic beauty but also the cultural significance with the Chateau and the hamlet. And your Thanksgiving wishes add such warmth — a reminder of gratitude and togetherness across borders. Thank you for sharing this inspiring piece.

    1. Thank you very much for your lovely comments, Hary. Lake Louise is definitely a stunner as is the entire region. The Rocky Mountains are so incredibly beautiful. Yes, the Chateau definitely has cultural significance as it was opened in 1898 and was one of the first upscale hotels in the Rockies. It’s certainly now an icon.

You’re very welcome. My pleasure. Cheers.

  3. Thank you so much, my friend! Your words truly warmed my heart. Lake Louise and the Rockies carry a magic of their own — timeless, serene, and breathtakingly grand. Knowing the Chateau’s history makes being there feel even more special, like stepping into a beautifully preserved moment from the past. I’m glad we could share that awe together, even through words.

Always a pleasure talking with you.
    Cheers, with warmth and gratitude!
