There are so many beautiful colours at this time of year, and not just the gorgeous leaves.

I’ve been watching these bigleaf hydrangeas since May and have seen their glorious transformations throughout late spring, summer and autumn. They’re fading now, but what a beautiful gift they have been!

And then there are the vanilla fraise (strawberry vanilla) hydrangeas. Not nearly as dramatic as the bigleaf hydrangeas, but their beautiful metamorphosis from white to pink is equally glorious. The picture below from early September shows how they have changed.

Happy Saturday.
That second photo is especially stunning!

Thank you very much. That hydrangea shrub is still doing incredibly well. Cheers.

I love how they fade so gloriously xx

They sure do. No sudden dying off but rather a very gentle and beautiful fade.

Lovely looking colours still, for this time of year.

Agreed. Plants and even some flowers will last quite well here, even into November. It’s so nice.

That’s lovely that they even last into November.

I agree, Liz. I have flowers – petunias and impatiens- out on my deck that are still doing well. The climate here is very temperate which is why we can grow peaches, cherries and wine grapes; it doesn’t go much below 0 in winter. It’s one of the reasons why we decided to settle here.

Great colours Lynette, I think hydrangeas are one of the best flowers.

Yes, I agree, Leanne. There are such varieties of them and they usually last so well, even as potted plants.

It’s good to appreciate the colours while we still have them. I remember well how desperate we were for a bit of colour at the end of last winter.

I agree, Anneli. We have to enjoy it while it’s here. Yes, I remember that too. It can become so grey here and on the coast with all the rain and low-hanging clouds.

A wonderful collection of colors and I noticed the hydrangeas here in front of our fire station are still doing well but not the same vibrant shade as early September. I’m new to this part of the country so it’s all interesting to watch.

Thank you very much, Laura. Hydrangeas are so amazing. There are many varieties of them and they usually last so well over five or six months but eventually they will fade gently away.

These colour changer hydrangeas give full value throughout the year. I hope my lone hydrangea gets big enough to start thriving in the coming years. A bit of moisture would not hurt. Happy weekend Lynette. Allan

Thank you, Allan. They definitely do, that’s for sure. It sounds as if you still haven’t had any or much rain. We have been fortunate with a couple of mainly overnight rain storms but at 1200-1400 metres that rain is snow, so the passes have been slick. Winter is on the way.

Love the deep purples and pinks of the hydrangeas as they put on one last show before winter. Stunning shots. This just reinforces why hydrangeas are my favourite.

Thank you, Linda. They’re still beautiful even though their leaves are starting deteriorate now. It’s amazing how they continue beautifully along for months. I understand completely why they’re your favourite. Cheers.

I’ve enjoyed your hydrangea photos, Lynette, displaying their beautiful colors as the season progresses. It’s been a feast for the eyes.

Thank you, Tricia. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed these pictures. It’s been fun tracking how well they’re doing as autumn progresses. I’ll be missing them in January!

Yes, the hydrangeas have such gorgeous long-lasting blooms but to then change colours is quite a beautiful bonus. 😊 Cheers.

Wow, those hydrangeas are beautiful. Here in Dallas most trees are still entirely green, but we have one tree that is starting to turn yellow.

Hydrangeas are so gorgeous and there are so many varieties of their long-lived blooms. We’re mostly still green here too except for the white ash trees which usually begin turning ahead of many of the others. It’s such a beautiful time of year.

I lived further north, Sweden, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan so I know autumn colors are really beautiful up north. Here in Texas it is not so much of that.

Yes, I understand. I lived in Phoenix for a year and saw a very muted autumn. There, the leaves for the most part just sort of dried up and fell off. Phoenix and Dallas are less than a degree of latitude apart so I imagine your autumn is fairly similar.

Yes you are right. A lot of trees stay green and some just have leaves becoming yellow, drying up and falling off.

I couldn’t agree more. I’ll be missing everything until the end of February/beginning of March when everyone starts to awaken. Yes, the hydrangeas are gorgeous. 😊 Cheers.

Yes, it definitely is. I love that creamy white and then the light pink that becomes darker as time goes on – beautiful. 😊
