Wonderful Stuff …

… to see right now …

… such as thriving peaches readily available in the market …

… and hydrangeas blooming while the trees still hug their leaves …

… as the summer-warm lake lazes under a drowsing sun …

… and the creek slowly trickles along , relaxing in the shade …

… while the grapes grow plumper with each passing day.

Happy Sunday.

    1. Thanks, Allan. The older, more established wineries weren’t unscathed but had better resources for dealing with the cold such as overvine (or root) warm water sprinklers and heaters that were already installed, especially for their flagship vines like syrah, chardonnay, pinot gris and pinot noir. But they also lost a lot, too. So many fields had to be replanted. They seem to be doing much better this year, though.

      1. I remember driving along the highway by Keremeos and checking out all the fruit and vegetable stands. This time of year you’d see more of the fall harvest like squash and pumpkins, honey, and late apples. I love the straw people they park on the street corners too. Wonderful time of year.

        1. There are lots of stone fruits still available like peaches and plums which is really great, but yes, the apples and pears are all coming out now, too. We usually do a trip out to Keremeos a couple of times a year for wine and/or produce. Pretty nice. Definitely a wonderful time of year. 😊 Cheers.

  1. It was peach season in Armenia for our last couple of weeks there. We have bought several BC peaches since we’ve been home. I have to say, BC’s fruit is much better, more flavour, juicier. Although we’re on Sunshine Coast now and the prices are ridiculously high for Okanagan fruit! 😊 Maggie

    1. There have been a lot of complaints around here about gouging as people avoid buying produce from the U.S. We’ve found that the farm stands or the local markets have better pricing but not always. Some of them are gouging too but we tend to know better which ones. It’s so irritating! Enjoy your visit to the Sunshine Coast. September is such a good month. Cheers.

    1. Thank you very much, Thomas. Yes, people can be surprised by that. We are in a microclimate here (a valley between two mountain ranges) with hot summers and very mild winters. Frost appears mid-November at the earliest and we might get a bit of snow but it will melt during the day as daytime winter temperatures are above 0C. As a result we have a good wine industry (we’re at 49-50°N, putting us in the same latitude as the wine regions of Champagne and Rheingau) and strong agricultural sector. There’s skiing in the nearby mountains, too. 😊 Cheers.
