Regatta Day

On August 30 the Penticton Yacht Club had their annual sailboat regatta on Okanagan Lake. The weather was great for it and there seemed to be the right amount of wind, too.

I spent some time watching the boats leaving the marina …

… and organising themselves for the timed race up the lake to Kelowna, I believe – I’m not completely sure of that, though – which would be about 88 km (55 miles).

Watching these boats brought back memories of my own sailing days on Lake Ontario, many moons ago now.

Races such as these can be a lot of fun especially for keeping your skills up and can even be fun for those on the shore watching those lovely white sails against blue skies and blue water.

Happy first Tuesday of September.

  1. A great end of summer spectacle Lynette. I am not a sailor, but love to watch the boats. Yesterday was so smoky here, we could have used a bit of wind. Happy Tuesday. Allan

    1. I was a competent sailor but nothing more than that. I didn’t view the scenery because I was too busy trying to figure out what to do next! I used to do a lot of canoeing too. I was much better at that. 😊 Cheers.

  2. Seems like fun for racers and spectators. My husband has been saying he wants to take sailing lessons for a few years now. But he also gets seasick very easily, so now sure how boat life will work out for him!

    1. My daughter was very prone to seasickness but somehow the focus on doing the sailing herself seemed to mitigate that. She didn’t do well if she was a passenger but as a sailor she was fine. That’s so funny but it seems to work. I really enjoyed seeing the white sails against the blue skies and water. It was so beautiful. Cheers.
