I took this earlier in the summer, I haven’t seen any grackles in a while, though it’s a bit early for their fall migration.

They do and Belinda’s photo has highlighted their colours beautifully. Very pretty and intelligent birds but very aggressive, too.

The grackles are thick as thieves around here right now, scavenging for anything and everything. For such an intrusive bird, they are very pretty in the right light. Allan

I used to get flocks of them it seemed like in my back yard in Medicine Hat as I had quite a few ornamental plum and cherry trees and they stopped to eat the fruit. I had to remove the bird feeders during those times because they would just over-run them. But yes, their iridescent feathers are quite beautiful and they are quite intelligent, too. Belinda’s photo of this one showcases their colours so well.

That is a beautiful photo showing the colors of the grackle. There were two in my yard a few days ago. I usually see way more than two together.

Yes, Belinda’s photos are gorgeous. I usually see them in small flocks as well. They’re very intelligent but also can be very aggressive, too.

While the colours are pretty, they aren’t a bird. I like much as they are very territorial and will fly and attack people.

When I lived in Medicine Hat I used to get a lot of them in my yard during September and they could be very aggressive with other birds (I watched a group of them chase off a magpie once) but I haven’t heard of them attacking people. It wouldn’t surprise me though, especially if a nest is involved.

They nested in our hedge that surrounded the garden. They relentlessly dove at us.

Wow! That’s awful! I might have suited myself up (with helmet and whatever else needed for good protection) and removed the nest. That’s unfortunate but if they’re relentlessly diving at you then they have to go, especially if your grandchildren are around.

Pre grandkids but magically the nest disappeared one night 😏.
