Wine Time

We visited a favourite winery for lunch.

It has fantastic views of Okanagan Lake from its perch high above on the western side …

… and an excellent restaurant with, of course, excellent wine.

It was so good in fact that we had to do some walking afterwards – with lots of extra water – to make sure we were safe to drive home!

Happy Thursday.

  1. Beautiful scenes of where adult fruit juice comes from Lynette. Always nice to see the orchards and vineyards doing well in the Okanagan. Might I ask which winery this was? We had a wine tasting and supper at Mission Hill in West Kelowna on one trip. Thanks goodness for taxis. Have a great day. Allan

    1. The weather this summer has really been great for all the wineries, orchards and farmers, and especially good after several bad years in a row. This is Quail’s Gate winery in West Kelowna, one of the older ones and very close to Mission Hill. Only about five mins away. We were circumspect on how much wine we had as we were driving, but it wasn’t a hardship to walk the grounds to make sure we were good!

    1. It is a favourite and the views are fantastic. Yes, a lot of ice wine is produced here; it’s usually harvested by hand in late December or January when the grapes are frozen through and the ice crystals can be maintained at the proper temperature right up until pressing. It’s very finicky work. It’s interesting to see the vineyards all lit up at night as the pickers go through.

    1. Yes, it’s a lovely relaxing spot with great food and wine! The particular bottle we had at lunch was made with grapes from Oregon – they were kindly supplied to B.C. to bolster our production when our harvest was nearly destroyed a couple of years ago by the cold snap we experienced. It was lovely. 😊
