This eagle was doing some serious hunting.

After swooping over the forest, he or she came back to a tree to survey the lunch field.

I think my presence may have been a bit of a distraction, so I decided to move on in order that the hunting could continue without human interference.
Happy Sunday.
I admire how you stepped back to let the eagle hunt. That kind of respect for wildlife makes moments like this even more special.

Thank you very much for your kind comment, Mrs W. 😊 I really felt that I might be bothering her/him, and worried a bit that if there were eaglets, I might be interfering with their lunch.

It is hard to know sometimes if the eagle’s look is just fierce or annoyed that some mere human is distracting it from it daily business. Such a majestic bird. Happy Sunday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. I agree! Very hard to know although my sense this time was that she or he wanted me out of there. I wondered if there was a nest nearby as theirs aren’t too difficult to spot usually, but I didn’t see anything. Yes, they are so, so impressive!

Beautiful! I remember when eagles were so hard to find. I’m delighted to see more and more these days.

I remember that, too. They were in serious trouble. I’m so glad that we were able to respond to that situation and now these majestic birds are very much back.

How close to the eagle were you?

Hi Neil, about 8 metres (approx 25 feet). That’s one of the reasons why I felt I was intruding, too.

In the second photo it looks like he’s saying, “What’re YOU lookin’ at? Isn’t it time for you to move on?”

You’re right about that, Anneli! I definitely felt like I was being willed to get moving away from there. I’m thinking that there must have been a nest nearby but I didn’t see one and they’re usually very noticeable. On the other hand, I was also trying to get going and may have missed it.

The eagles who nested in our neighbourhood are driving everyone crazy. The young are shrieking a lot. It seems like it goes on all day but I’m sure they take a break. For me, their calling for food and shrieking kind of takes the magic out of having eagles around.

Wow. We have one bonded pair in our neighbourhood. Usually eagles are so territorial that other couples find a nesting area further away but it sounds like you’re hearing a number of nests. At least it won’t take too long before they’re out of the nests and the shrieking should stop.

Oh, yes. We try to tune it out. They have to nest somewhere, and in a way, it’s nice to know they are having success. We just have to put up with the shrieking. I’d rather listen to that than to the rude people walking by (for a quiet walk) yelling into their phones and disturbing the whole neighbourhood.

Yes, I can remember when they were in serious trouble and I’m grateful that their numbers came back. Agreed, people yipping into their cell phones is so annoying (and rude). I’m really not interested in hearing what your sister’s boyfriend did. Ugh.

Thank you very much, Wayne. 😊 This is a he? I find it hard to tell the difference between them.

I could be wrong but that would be my guess.
After you look at many eagles over many years, you begin to see slight differences.
