I don’t see them all that often here and when I do I don’t usually have a camera with me. This time though, I got a picture. Their head feathers together with that very pointy bill makes them look memorable but ridiculous! I agree, Allan, I often see types of waterfowl that I can’t identify. Cheers.
They’re generally found here and Washington state; I don’t think they go as far south as California. They’re very quirky looking with all those head feathers!
They definitely are, Anneli. I’ve been trying to get a good picture for a long time. Either I only had my phone or didn’t have my camera along. Finally I a good opportunity came my way.
I am always stunned by this duck. That head! Those colours! It’s like seeing an Atlantic Puffin up close and for real, the first time. Your brain cannot believe your eyes.
