Sunset in Revelstoke

Revelstoke is a small city in the valley between British Columbia’s Selkirk and Monashee Mountain ranges.

It’s known for its challenging, vertical drop black diamond skiing in winter, but we were enjoying its summer hiking trails instead.

Happy Tuesday.

    1. We actually hadn’t spent any time in Revy in years – except to pass through – so we very much enjoyed stopping to really see it. We found a fantastic restaurant, too! No more skiing for us since M fell on his shoulder a few years back and I had an issue with a hip. Getting older …

    1. I haven’t skied in Revy in years but M and I both stopped because we were collecting age-related injuries. M hurt his shoulder 15 years ago and it’s still a problem. The hiking is fantastic though. We’re planning a return trip in September. Cheers.

  1. Must be great for skiers, but just to live there, it has the same feeling of being in the bottom of a kettle, something like Hope, BC, all hemmed in by mountains. Beautiful in its own way, but I’d have a hard time living there, closed in. Beautiful sky shots, Lynette.

    1. Thank you very much, Anneli. It has become a good ski destination for people who are more advanced in their abilities, and of course, if you’re up on a mountain you’re above it all. But yes, some people do feel hemmed in when in mountain valleys, especially in the winter when there’s less light.

      1. It’s something I noticed as we drove through the Alps one summer, way back when we were young. The sun didn’t clear the peaks on the morning side until about 10:30 or so, and was gone again by 2:00, blocked by peaks on the other side. Imagine how much worse it would be in the winter.

  2. What a lovely spot to watch the sunset. We visited Revelstoke National Park a few years ago near the beginning of July. Most of the scenic drive to the top of the mountain was still closed due to snow. We were still able to do some hiking at lower elevations though. But we’d love to come back someday to see what we were missing.

    1. We’re going to come back in September when it’s cooler and the worst of the bugs are over to get to know it a bit better and also to do more hiking. We had a lovely evening watching the sun go down. So great.
