Revelstoke is a small city in the valley between British Columbia’s Selkirk and Monashee Mountain ranges.

It’s known for its challenging, vertical drop black diamond skiing in winter, but we were enjoying its summer hiking trails instead.

Happy Tuesday.
It looks rather wonderful. Happy Tuesday, Lynette xx

We’re the opposite, we’re in Revy every winter to ski, but not in the summer. Beautiful sunset..

We actually hadn’t spent any time in Revy in years – except to pass through – so we very much enjoyed stopping to really see it. We found a fantastic restaurant, too! No more skiing for us since M fell on his shoulder a few years back and I had an issue with a hip. Getting older …

The Village Idiot has great burgers (veggie for me) if you’re still there 😊

Thanks for the head’s up! Finding a good veggie burger is a wonderful thing! 😊

I like ski resorts outside of ski season, they provide such superb hiking opportunities

We stopped skiing about ten years ago due to mounting injuries caused by aging … But agreed, there’s usually good hiking in summer.

We have stopped here a few times and always enjoyed the visit. We have never skied here. Happy Tuesday Lynette. Allan

I haven’t skied in Revy in years but M and I both stopped because we were collecting age-related injuries. M hurt his shoulder 15 years ago and it’s still a problem. The hiking is fantastic though. We’re planning a return trip in September. Cheers.

Must be great for skiers, but just to live there, it has the same feeling of being in the bottom of a kettle, something like Hope, BC, all hemmed in by mountains. Beautiful in its own way, but I’d have a hard time living there, closed in. Beautiful sky shots, Lynette.

Thank you very much, Anneli. It has become a good ski destination for people who are more advanced in their abilities, and of course, if you’re up on a mountain you’re above it all. But yes, some people do feel hemmed in when in mountain valleys, especially in the winter when there’s less light.

It’s something I noticed as we drove through the Alps one summer, way back when we were young. The sun didn’t clear the peaks on the morning side until about 10:30 or so, and was gone again by 2:00, blocked by peaks on the other side. Imagine how much worse it would be in the winter.

Yes, I noticed that while visiting the Alps, too. The Alps are more compact though so the Rockies are a bit better with light, but it’s still not great. Yes, definitely much darker in winter, too.

Compact is the word. With the Rockies those peaks are spread out more so the darkness is not as pronounced.

It looks a challenging area for skiing and hiking and very beautiful! Fine shots 😊

Thank you very much. 😊 The skiing is challenging; it’s mostly black diamond runs and lots of heli-skiing, too. The hiking is mixed with lots of demanding but also easier trails, too.

What a lovely spot to watch the sunset. We visited Revelstoke National Park a few years ago near the beginning of July. Most of the scenic drive to the top of the mountain was still closed due to snow. We were still able to do some hiking at lower elevations though. But we’d love to come back someday to see what we were missing.

We’re going to come back in September when it’s cooler and the worst of the bugs are over to get to know it a bit better and also to do more hiking. We had a lovely evening watching the sun go down. So great.
