I love all the new leaves that are emerging or about to emerge at this time of year.

So much healthy growth to appreciate and admire. Isn’t spring grand?

The unfolding of leaves is a great part of spring. How does this happen over and over every year without any human involvement and sometimes despite human involvement. A true miracle. Happy Wednesday Lynette. Allan

I agree, Allan. Nature’s power is awesome; I marvel at it every day and especially now. That’s why I believe that we humans can’t destroy the Earth. We can cause a lot of damage and can even destroy ourselves, but the Earth? It will survive us.

Spring is grand. I didn’t realize before that the Japanese Maple has 3 different colours. That would be a great tree to have in your yard.

This is a lace-leaf Japanese maple, so they only grow to about a metre but are shaped like an umbrella. The leaves cascade over the trunk in the most beautiful way. And then the foliage progresses through those gorgeous colours. It turns such an amazing red in autumn. If I still had a yard I would definitely like to have one.

I’ve been taken with the shades of green this spring. They seem more varied and brighter than usual. Your photos are wonderful examples.

Thank you very much, Ally. I agree that spring is more vibrant this year. In our case part of it could be that we’re clear of the drought conditions that we’ve had for the last three. Everything is so lush and healthy!

Didn’t know that about the Norway Maple leaves. Interesting.

Yes, they start with a dark red, progress to green and then turn red in the autumn again. Beautiful changes in those trees. Cheers.

Good point about highlighting leaves. They are as different from each other as flowers are.

They are so pretty, all the way through autumn, too.

Spring is definitely grand and very colourful. We have a few varieties of Japanese maples in our yard, including a crimson queen laceleaf like the one in your picture. It’s a beautiful red right now, but is absolutely stunning in the fall.

It sure is, isn’t it? I love all the different species of maples we have here in the parks and gardens. But yes, the laceleaf turns the most intense, almost glowing red in the autumn. It’s stunning.
