Snack Time

Someone had brought the marmot colony a load of carrots and cucumber; very healthy snacks for them.

Everyone was fully enjoying this yummy treat except for the sentry marmot. He whistled repeatedly – their warning call is a very high-pitched, sharp alert – as a small group of people, although standing respectfully back, had gathered to watch them eat.

But this little guy was working really hard, too hard! He sounded the warning, jumped down to have a bite of cucumber, then jumped back up again and repeated. I walked away as I felt that they needed to be left alone to enjoy their yummies in peace.

Happy Monday.

  1. There are always the Nervous Nellies around in the animal kingdom and for good reason. Even though they seem used to humans, many do not trust us and with good reason. A lot of cutueness in this post Lynette. Happy Monday. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan. There sure are, and yes, you’re right, for good reason. Yesterday I saw someone allow his dog to terrify them – the dog was standing on top of their rockpile burrow, trying to stick his head into their entrances. Some people! Ugh. They are definitely high on the cuteness metre. People love to watch them (and feed them, too!). Cheers.

    1. For the most part they’re left alone but when someone feeds them like that people usually gather to watch them. They are definitely high on the cuteness metre and they’re so affectionate with each other, too.

    1. Thank you very much. 😊That poor little fellow was having a hard time attending to his duties but also trying to enjoy a snack! I felt it best to leave them alone so that he wouldn’t feel so torn.
