Ice Jacket

The wind-whipped lake generated enough spray to produce these icy sheaths at the bases of these old pier supports.

Although the wind has died off now and the temperature is turning around – our high today was 0C (32F) – these icy housings give me chills. Burr!

I think I’ve had enough of this now and would really like to start seeing some springy signs. How about you?

Happy Sunday.

    1. I would settle for a few signs, a bit of hope, but now I keep hearing about Arctic air masses and other such troubling weather events. Ugh. I had thought our temperatures were supposed to improve … 🙄

        1. We have the opposite issue. The orchardists and vintners are very concerned about any additional cold snaps that might befall us after last year’s debacle, so it will be a relief here if the temperatures don’t dip down into the abnormal. It’s not supposed to get colder than about -6 or so. It’s already unusual in that we’re experiencing the worst of the cold in February rather than January. Glad to hear your winter is more usual. Climate change. Ugh.

    1. Thank you very much, Tricia. 😊A break from the weather is a pretty nice thing.

It’s weird that we’re experiencing January temperatures in February. Last year at this time, I could see spring getting ready to make its first moves!

  1. The bottom third of that first photo looks like a Hokusai painting! It’s gorgeous.

My daffodils are in flower, but it’s so cold and wet I am afraid they will be killed off before they have a chance.

    1. Thank you very much – that’s such a lovely compliment! 😊

Our temperature has turned around and today it’s sunny and above freezing. Feels like there might be some spring arriving soon! I hope you get some sun and drier weather any day now.
