Wintery Skaha Lake

As I’ve noted here before, Penticton is one of two communities in the world that’s sandwiched between two lakes. The other is Interlaken, Switzerland.

An autumnal evening view of Okanagan Lake.

I usually post pictures of the considerably larger Okanagan Lake which is very close to where I live.

A chilly-looking Skaha Lake.

Although smaller, Skaha Lake which is situated on the southern end of town, is equally impressive if very cold right now.

Wintery Skaha Lake.

Although we are fortunately still above freezing and are enjoying a string of sunny days, as you can probably tell the wind is quite cold and you definitely wouldn’t want to go swimming!

To those of you who are coping with the extremely cold temperatures that are hitting large portions of North America right now, stay safe (and warm).

  1. There is no mistaking the look of cold winter water in these shots Lynette. We had a high winds and blowing snow overnight, just short of another snow squall. Next Monday, it is supposed to go to +11. Yo Yo time. Happy Wednesday. Allan

    1. Thank you very much, Allan. I saw that! You’re right, yo-yo time it is. We are maintaining our +1 – 2 with about -5 at night. Very cloudy today with flurries in the mountains but we’re glad to be missing that extremely cold air coming out of the north. Brrr.🥶

  2. Thank you Lynnette it is pretty cold here in Alberta (not uncommon for us her though). Love your photos of the lakes, well done! Thanks for the trivia too about communities between two lakes.

    1. Thank you very much, Suzette. I used to live in Alberta and more recently in Yellowknife for 6 years (we moved back to Penticton in 2023), so I understand about extremely cold weather and all the precautions needed. Stay warm. 😊

  3. Much better winter weather than where you lived when you were working. Enjoy.

P.S. We warmed up to a whopping -11c (12f) at the moment and it’s supposed to get to -5c (20f). But we’re now getting snow. They said it’s not supposed to accumulate to much, but so far we’ve got an inch and it’s still coming. I wish I could say it’s pretty, but it’s blowing. 😕

    1. You’re so right about that, Lori! I’m so glad we’re not dealing with frozen vehicles, airplanes and piles of snow.

I read about all the snow you’re getting. I think it’s supposed to be the worst around Lakes Ontario and Erie. Agreed, blowing snow is nasty. Stay cozy and warm, Lori. It’s a time to hibernate a bit with your poochie and a good book! Cheers.
