Clearing Skies

Yesterday I awoke to an intense wind storm that was later accompanied by buckets of pelting rain. Later in the day though, it had cleared sufficiently for a walk.

I expected it to still be quite windy but as my walk progressed, the wind calmed and the clouds began to dissipate.

We even had a minor rise in temperature of 0.5C (that’s a 1° rise in F) for a high of 3.5C (38F). Not fantastic but seriously much better than freezing and without a doubt better than the -15C (-9F) that Yellowknife is experiencing!

I also found these dianthus (also known as sweet william) blooming prettily in a protected spot. Even their lovely scent was still noticeable.

We are supposed to get freezing rain tomorrow, but we’ll see what materialises: nothing, I hope!

Happy Sunday.

  1. Crazy weather Lynette. Love the dianthus. Keep your fingers crossed for us. We begin the long trek home on Tuesday (including a ferry crossing). We can’t wait to be home. Cheers. Allan

    1. 🤞 Will do. You’re heading back to AB on Tuesday and we’re heading to Victoria on Wednesday and will also be taking our time. You have been away for about 2 months, yes? I would definitely be wanting to get back home, too. You and Patty have a safe drive home, Allan.

      1. Yup. 2 months away and the novelty of helping people has worn off. We just want our own La-Z-Boy and our own bed. We’ll be in Kamloops Tuesday night and Jasper for the next two. We want to get some hiking in and help the town economy. Drive safe Lynette. Allan

  2. Wow, you are getting some wild weather! The photos are so beautiful, I love the mountains. I hope you don’t get the freezing rain, it’s so dangerous! Stay home.

    1. Thank you very much, John. The winter weather here in the Okanagan Valley is usually rainy. The wind is somewhat unusual but it is December so we should expect some inclement weather. I’m hoping we don’t get the freezing rain, either. Agreed – it’s nasty. Cheers.

          1. Oh my gosh, you are one tough person! I grew up in Michigan but that’s not nearly that cold. my coldest experience was -30F, your breath freezes right away on your mustache, eyebrows and lashes!

          2. The key is to dress for it. I have a fantastic parka that was made for me and it worked beautifully. I can’t wear it here because it’s too warm. -30F is about -34C, but I worked in temperatures as low as -45C (-49F). Freezing eyelashes were common; I had everything else covered! So nope, no more snow for me. 😊 Cheers.
