Autumn is soon ending and winter is officially starting on December 21, so there aren’t many of those lovely fall colours left, but they’re not completely gone.

There are lots of grasses still and some of them are beautiful. I find that this one almost looks like a weaving.

On second thought, it’s not so much the colour as the texture of these grasses that I find so appealing. We are suddenly getting some very cold winds, so seeing these lovely plants is somehow very comforting.
Happy weekend.
These are pretty though, aren’t they?

I think so, too, Jo. Their texture is so interesting. 😊 Cheers.

They look so soft. Nice that you can find beauty anywhere. Maggie

They have both hard and soft parts, but yes, the overalll impression is that they’re soft. They’re amazingly resilient, too.

Grass plants are so pretty. They look delicate but are actually quite sturdy. Beautiful photos!

Thank you very much. I agree, Tricia. Delicate but amazingly resilient. They come through some tough weather at times.

The textures of these grasses appear as a warm sweater as they weave and sway in the wind! Lovely post!

Thank you very much. 😊 Yes, they do look like they could be part of a textured sweater. I recently discovered that a very tiny type of bird is sheltering in these grasses but I haven’t been able to get a good look at them yet.

Lynette, it makes sense that birds find shelter in these grasses. Mother Nature’s surprises are everywhere!

They’re very dense grasses so yes, they would make a good spot for a little bird. Cheers.

We are continually amazed by the grasses wherever and when ever we walk. It is so resilient and so varied, I always wonder why it struggles so much to stay looking good in my lawn. 😊Happy weekend Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. Hahaha. Grasses are also known for how impetuous they are. You never know how they’re going to react. 😉 But agreed, there are lots of beautiful varieties of them here, too.

I love grasses and you are right, the textures are so appealing and attractive. As your photos show so well.

Thank you very much, Jude. 😊 Yes, I do like the visual interest they provide. This winter they also seem to be sheltering a very tiny bird that I haven’t been able to see very well yet.

The grasses are very beautiful, Lynette! The winter solstice is my birthday but its not exciting these days… 😂

Thanks, John. 😊 You’re a solstice baby! I bet you did lots of partying when you were a young sprout! I pretty much ignore my birthdays now. M and I have birthdays that are exactly a week apart, so we usually do a dinner to celebrate both but nothing else and certainly we don’t make a fuss.

A dinner together sounds great! Yes, I was born on the shortest day of the year but never felt shorted by having a birthday so close to Christmas!

It’s so nice to see these grasses, particularly when the cold sets in! You have some wonderful examples here, nice detail 😊

Thank you very much, Belinda. 😊 We suddenly are experiencing a very strong, cold wind that’s coming straight up the valley from the south. Still no snow but that wind feels like it’s coming off a glacier!

It’s nice to look at scenes like this when the temperature dips! We’re supposed to get more snow tonight 😣

Stay warm and I hope you don’t have to do a lot of shovelling! We were hit earlier today with a huge rainstorm. It was bucketing down and the wind was howling, too. Very unpleasant out. I feel like snuggling with hot chocolate and warm blankets but I’m going for my daily walk anyway. 🥶

Me too 😏. Take care out there!

Thanks, Belinda. By the time I got out it was starting to clear. A bit of sun and the wind had died off!

You did a good job of showing the beauty in those photos, Lynette. Cold hit here hard now. It’s been around 25f (-3c) for a week now. Wind chill factors make it even colder. Supposed to warm up a bit this weekend, but then go back down again. Stay warm and have a nice weekend.

Thank you very much, Lori. We still don’t have snow – it’s raining right now – and our highs are 2-3° (36-37 F) but the wind! It’s howling up the valley from the south and feels like it’s coming off a glacier! You stay warm and comfy, too. Cheers.

Definitely gorgeous material for photos. I always chuckle at winter starting on Dec 21st, but as a previous other places dweller, you know it can start a LOT earlier.

Thank you. 😊 I do as well Bernie, because it seems to me that it’s already made its presence very known! And yes, the NWT start was usually right at the end of October!

Our anniversary is the 10th, our daughter’s birthday on the 12th. We’ve had snow many times on those occasions, and often, it has stuck around for the winter. ❄️which is why I believe in embracing it.

When I lived in southern Alberta I remember one September when we had snow. It melted right away but the weather never really warmed up again until spring. But I agree. Embracing winter and its beauties is the only way to go. After six years in the north I am happy to admire it from afar, however. 😉

Thank you very much, Linda. I had the urge to touch them, too, but they’re actually rather prickly as there are seed shells within those fluffy bits. Admiring their appearance is better!
