September 6’s Friday Fleurday

I’ve been watching these panicle hydrangeas over the last couple of weeks as they have developed into incredibly lush and beautiful clusters of flowers.

The bush is about 2.5 metres tall (approx. 8ft) and covered in these rich pink and white panicle bundles. They are now reaching the height of their beauty.

Aren’t they lovely?

Happy Friday.

  1. Wow! A glorious and humongous hydrangea and what a joy for you (& now us all). I had one in this beautiful pink in a pot given to me by my son for Mother’s Day a few years ago. Sadly it died while I was away and now just a brown stalks and flowers heads! Wishing you a lovely Friday, Lynette! Xx

    1. Thank you very much, Annika and welcome back. I hope you enjoyed your holidays. Yes, this one is humongous and very well established and right now it’s so lush and beautiful. It seems to have perfect growing conditions and I’ve enjoyed seeing it develop through the spring and summer. I love hydrangeas; they’re one of my favourites. Cheers.

  2. Love the panicle hydrangeas. My neighbour has one that is at the peak of perfection right now and it is only in its 2nd year in his yard. Happy Friday Lynette. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan. I love them, too. They are so showy and the clusters so large, I sometimes wonder how the stems can hold them up! Hydrangeas are somewhat difficult to grow in Alberta because of the chinooks (or wind in general) and the cold, too. Your neighbour must be hitting all the right notes!

  3. I know them as Hydrangea paniculata and I have ‘Vanille Fraise’ which is just beginning to turn pink. They are rather lovely, though mine is a bit of a sprawler despite being pruned hard each spring.

    1. This one almost looks like a globe-shaped tree. It’s in a very ideal location protected from the wind but good sun and shade, too. It’s such a beautiful shrub, especially right now with this bounty of flower clusters. Is the Vanille Fraise as pink as the name suggests? This one is a darker, duskier pink.

      1. Vanille starts out pure white which is when I like it best, then slowly turns pale pink, dark pink and finally brown. There is a darker one with the dreadful name Pinky Winky!

  4. Such a pretty transition from white to a deep pink. And I love how huge the flowers are. I have a couple of Incrediball hydrangeas in my front yard but have been eying this particular variety to plant in our backyard.

    1. These are very slow to mature so you see the clusters through their lovely development phases and then they come into their height in late August or early September. I love that they’re late bloomers, so to speak!
