Summer Evening Sky

We’re in the middle of a hot spell right now with 38C (100.4F) or thereabouts for the next several days. While it’s a dry heat, I prefer to get any outside activities completed before 10:00 a.m. or so, but we are also getting beautiful evening skies that cool off to a much more comfortable 23 or 24 (73 – 75 F).

Sitting outside on a cooling evening with a great scene in front of you is a wonderful thing.

Happy Saturday.

    1. Thank you very much. 😊 It’s typical for this area to get about a month of high 30s and even low 40s, but during the last few years that hot period has been arriving earlier and lasting much longer.

  1. August evening skies are so pretty. Still hot here, but the nights cool down nicely and the sunsets are amazing. Can autumn be far behind. Happy Saturday Lynette. Allan

    1. I agree, Allan. We’re at the zenith of the hot days and warm evenings, I would say (although you can’t depend on those patterns now, really). Another couple of weeks and we will start that gentle autumn slide – can’t believe it’s coming up so soon!

    1. Yes, Calgary always used to be cooler in summer given its elevation, but that has changed. High 30s (and even low 40s) is quite usual here for end of July and beginning of August, but we’ve noticed that that hot spell is starting earlier and lasting longer. Thanks, Maggie. We love the views here.

  2. I suppose it’s a good thing days are getting shorter and the blazing sun sets a little earlier each day. I know we’ll be sorry later, but for now it’s a relief. Too much of a good thing.

    1. I agree, Anneli, although since that also means that we’re getting closer to autumn I’ll definitely be sorry later! The evenings and early mornings are gorgeous but outside at mid-day? Taking a breath dries out your lungs!

    1. I’ve experienced extreme humidity where everything is sort of wet and just thinking of moving causes a sweat bath. Ugh. I really don’t like humidity, but here it’s at least dry – although that can cause a set of problems, too. So far we’ve been getting enough rain but the extreme heat dries everything so quickly. Yes, the views here are beautiful; we love them. 😊

  3. We’ve been under a heat warning as well but it’s finally supposed to start cooling off tonight. Lucky that you have a dry heat. Good call on heading out early in the morning or in the evening, which is something I like to do too.

    1. It’s otherwise just so hot; it feels like I’m breathing in air from a blast furnace! Yes, dry heat is better, though. I’ve lived in humid areas before and everything is kind of damp and uncomfortable all the time. I think we’re supposed to start going down to about 28 or 29 towards the end of the week. That will be much better!
