And in keeping with the old saying, April showers …

… and more and more showers (appearing as snow in the mountains) …

… bring May flowers …

… or mid-April flowers, when the arrowleaf balsamroot, also known as the Okanagan sunflower, begins to bloom. They are profuse, have a beautiful scent, and are a perfect spring start!
Happy Saturday.
Wishing you a happy weekend, Lynette. We’re homeward bound later today 🫠🩷

So jealous of your spring, but ours will come eventually. The snow melt from yesterday was a blessing and they are talking about rain tonight. Enjoy your Saturday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. We’ve had rain and very blustery conditions over the last three days, but the temperatures have been around 10. Feels a lot colder, though. Agreed, more rain is needed, especially in the north where between BC and Alberta more than 100 overwintering fires are still burning. Or zombie fires. That name is very worrying given what it takes to get rid of zombies!

Last year at this time Alberta had 14 wildfires burning, this year we have 54. I am sure some of them are zombie fires, but some are also active. We have had snow/rain/sleet/ graupel so far today, with more to come.

I just checked and BC has 92 zombie fires from last year with an additional 8 new ones. There’s one near Fort Nelson that’s apparently particularly concerning, so yup, more rain is definitely needed!

And as of a couple of weeks ago we move in to Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. All about fresh starts and new beginnings. And all about my birthday, given that I am (apparently) your typical Aries male. But of course, being typical Aries, I don’t believe in any of that crap 😂😂😂

Hahaha. 😊 I don’t know much about the zodiac except that I’m a Leo married to a Leo, which someone once told me (a someone who was in contact with important vibrations, or something like that) is supposed to be a total disaster because we would be in a constant power struggle. When I gave her a funny look, she followed up with “or they work extremely well.” But zodiac or not, fresh starts and new beginnings can be a very good thing. Happy Birthday. 🎂

I hope you’re right, Lynette. Around here the poem usually goes:
April showers
Bring May showers.

I’ve read that a major weather shift might be starting (La Niña) bringing rain and cooler temperatures, so April showers might mean May showers here, too. At least it’s not snow.

Yes, I agree, especially about the snow. It needs to stay up in the mountains.

Agreed – the mountains are a good place for it! The mountains around here actually got some over the last couple of days; I can see bits of white again.

It has been rainy and blustery over the last three days – after 22 on Tuesday – but everything is greening and popping anyway. I can’t wait to see those sunflowers!

Here in Vermont, the March winds blew in February, the April showers happened in March, the February snows and May flowers happened in April. So far.

February snow in April? Yuck. But at least you are seeing flowers now even if they’re early. But agreed, the weather has definitely been wonky!

It’s been normal to get a late snow storm in the first week or so of April, but this year there were two good dumps of snow. Fortunately, the daffodils are designed to take it. And I was away – getting messages saying not to return!

Sometimes it would be great to stay away. I would congratulate you on your snow dumps, but I don’t think you have the drought issues that we do here in the west.

I guess the rain isn’t so bad when it leads to such pretty spring flowers afterwards

Oh boy, we have had lots of rain, but I understand that we are still in a bit of a deficit from last year’s drought – officially we’re dry – so we need it. Hard to believe after all the rain through February in particular, but I guess that just points to what a drought we were experiencing.
