The flowery buds of the red maples are rapidly developing; it won’t be long before we have some beautiful leaves.

Happy spring.

So nice to see the maples thriving. We have only a few here in our zone. I will have to see how my Amur Maple is doing. Happy Wednesday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan, and to you, too. I agree; at your more northern point you would need a hardier type. One of the parks here is bordered by sugar maples that are apparently over 100 years old. Sugar maples aren’t native to BC and these started as seedlings brought from Ontario, or that’s what’s thought locally. They are about 35m tall and such an elegant shape. When I stop to think about it, our national symbol is a beautiful one.

Always exciting to see the trees in bud. So pretty against the blue sky 😊

Agreed – I’ve been walking frequently near the tree pictured and watching its progress. Yes, I loved seeing those red flowerets against the blue sky. Cheers.

For sure. I am really enjoying this as I haven’t consistently seen it in a few years, of course. Spring in the north is always so sudden (and short) once the daylight hours start stretching.

Yes, it is sudden when spring comes in the north, and then sometimes, you get an awful surprise with a foot of snow on the Victoria Day weekend.

Yes – very true. A couple of years back I experienced a major snowstorm right at the end of May. Heavy, wet snow and almost 0 visibility. Winter didn’t want to let go. Then last year it suddenly turned hot (for the north) in early May, 25°C. But 2023’s weather was pretty strange in many places.

Is it any wonder we talk about the weather so much, when it is so unpredictable and ever-changing?

Agreed! It’s predictable up to a point but there’s always that 30% that can alter the whole show.

Nice pic! The Maple in our backyard is always the first tree to bud in the spring.
