Winter Evening Skies

We had a rainy day but the evening skies were beautiful with cloud striations and a nascent sunset partially obscured by overcast.

A pink and orange sunset pushes through the overcast and brings the leafless branches of the winter trees into stark contrast.
A cloud river nestles against a mountainside as the setting sun highlights the overcast.

Happy Thursday.

  1. Best described as a soft day. January is almost done and although winter is not, we can see the end. +2 and sunny here yesterday. Up to +10 by Sunday/Monday. Sloppy driving. Happy Thursday Lynette. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan.
Yes, it was a soft day – good description. Agreed – we’re almost at the end of January and spring is coming. We had quite a sloppy couple of days here too as it rained and the snow melted. Muddy spray everywhere. We will have a significant increase in temperature by Saturday also or at least that’s the projection.

  2. Those are gorgeous photos, Lynette. We get that cloud river effect in the bay below our house sometimes. It’s amazing how natural weather scenes can make life interesting – always changing.

    1. Thank you very much, Anneli. 😊 I love the interplay of light and cloud here in the valley. Agreed – it’s always changing. I’m a bit of a challenge as a walking partner since I’m always stopping to look (and have the time to now!).

      1. Leisure

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?—

No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as sheep and cows:

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass:

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night:

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance:

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began?

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

        1. That’s a beautiful poem and so very appropriate, Anneli. Thank you very much! 😊 I always enjoyed standing and staring but the time for it was very limited. It’s such a gift to have that time now.
