It’s Warmer!

After our unusual and record-breaking Arctic blast that was quickly followed by a Pacific Ocean storm which dumped a record-breaking load of snow, it seems we are back on track. That means that we will return to our regularly scheduled rain, but in the meantime, we had a day of cloud clearing and sunny breaks accompanied by a pleasant temperature.

Cloud breaks over the mountains.
The weak ice near the shore of Okanagan Lake is starting to break into small pans.

Happy Wednesday.

  1. Those shots do look chilly. Not a good day for water skiing, methinks. Glad things are warming up Lynette. We are on our way to the forest today, before it all gets too sloppy. Up to +7 next week. Happy Wednesday. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan.
They do look chilly but we actually had +6 and no wind, so it was a good walking day. Once we established our pace, I actually had to open my jacket. It was nice to see the sun. Today we are back to the rainy rain show, with demonstrations of low clouds and 100% overcast. We’re expecting higher temperatures too as the week goes on and maybe a bit more sun on the weekend. Enjoy your forest walk today. Cheers.

    1. Yes, I’m happy to report that our temperatures are rising, and I would definitely rather deal with rain than a freezing Arctic deep freeze! I agree; this valley is pretty even in January when it’s certainly not at its best. Glad to hear that you’re warmer too. 😊

  2. Always so pretty where you live. We didn’t see sun for the first 18 days of January. Then we got 3 days of blinding sun reflecting off the piles of snow. Then back to clouds with no sign of sun in the near future. At least the temps are warmer and melting the snow, although there is still a LOT to melt.

    1. Wow – no sun for 18 days! Although we may have been a close second. I didn’t count but it was at least a couple of weeks of serious overcast. Our snow is almost completely gone; we had a record snowfall for this area, but it was nothing like your amounts, it seems. January is never a good month and compared to the weather in the north (a friend reported that they had -45C or -49F; the gas lines were freezing) it’s not so bad! One of the reasons we decided to retire here is the landscape. I love taking photos of it! I hope your melt goes quickly and you get a weather break! 😊

          1. Yes; here it’s called the Polar Dip. M and I saw people taking the plunge on NYD in Okanagan Lake. It’s not organised in Penticton, people do it just for fun. In Naramata it’s organised as a fundraiser (apparently $1000 raised for firefighting this year). Definitely not my thing!
