Poinsettia Friday

The red poinsettia is the most commonly seen, traditional type with its brilliant leaves (the actual flower is in the centre of the red leaf clusters). The Aztecs saw the red ones as symbols of purity.
Happy last Friday of the year!
A bright spot for the season. Happy last Friday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. The poinsettia will soon be gone for another year.

Thank you very much, Belinda. I know a bit about poinsettias as my mother used to grow them and carefully time them so that their leaves would change colour. It’s from her that I learned where the actual flowers are. Cheers.

My mother grew these (and even timed them so their leaves would change colour – she was quite a gardener) and said that they should always be allowed to get a bit dry before watering and shouldn’t sit in water, either. I think she watered them about once a week. She also trimmed them so that they didn’t get “leggy.” That was her word for straggling offshoots. They’re definitely not the easiest plants to grow. Cheers.

My maternal grandmother was like that. She could grow anything…and used the same “leggy” term. Ha.
