Rockspray Cotoneaster

This is quite a handle for a cute little ground cover plant with flat green leaves and bright red berries!

The berries – which may last all winter – have recently changed colour and are adding another lovely colour dimension to our autumn palette.

Although they don’t look much like them, this plant is actually part of the rose family. I think those bight berries might be part of the family resemblance, however.

  3. A lot of our trees (including my Schubert) and shrubs did not fruit very well here, due to the high heat in April May. The blossoms burned off, before the fruit could set. Could be a tough winter for the birdies. There are a lot of berries in the forests through. Have a great Friday Lynette. Allan

    1. Thank you, Allan. We certainly took a shellacking this spring, didn’t we? The heat and fires are taking an incredible toll on animals, birds, plants and trees. I agree that it might be a tough winter for our forest friends.

  4. We have cotoneaster and ours is the laziest plant in the garden. I know it’s supposed to beautiful and vibrant but ours just isn’t up to it. Your photos are lovely.

      Haha😁 I love how you describe it as the “laziest plant in the garden.” The ones here are doing well and I have seen birds and squirrels hanging out around them for the berries, so there’s a bit more get-up-and-go in this bunch!

    1. I found these growing in bed in a city park. I’m beginning to realise what a good job the parks people do in keeping all these gardens and parks (and all the hanging plants everywhere, too) in such good shape. It’s a lot of work and done very well. Cheers.
