Nope – and I’m really happy to say this – they are white hydrangeas. No snowballs around here!

Aren’t they beautiful?

They make a luscious and delectable visual feast.

Happy Wednesday.

One could have a contest for guessing the number of flowers in one of these “snowballs”. They are beautiful.

Hydrangeas have a lot of hidden qualities. You could have a contest, but what looks like individual flowers within the “snowball” are actually the leaves of the plant. The tiny dot in the centre of each little cluster is the actual flower. The pink and blue ones will change colour, although not usually the white ones.

Hydrangeas are such a bundle of petals. There are varieties that grow in my area. I am going to have to get one. Happy Wednesday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. The petal lookalikes are actually leaves; the tiny flower is in the centre of each cluster of “petals.” Hydrangeas have lots of unexpected characteristics, especially the fact that they can change colours. I used to enjoy having them in my yard. They also make great dried flowers, too.

But from a distance… And maybe on the Rose Bowl Parade….

They definitely do! Or perhaps a rather large ice cream scoop! They would certainly fit in on the Rose Bowl Parade (I had to look up what that is – I basically know nothing about football.)

I know, it seems every couple of days something new is in bloom.

Love the look of hydrangeas. I am partial to the blue ones myself, but love how you captured these white puff-balls.

Thank you very much. I do as well. I like the blue ones too, and used to have some in the garden when I had a house with a yard. Once I played around a bit with the soil alkalinity to see if the blue ones would turn pink. Parts of a few did. Hydrangeas definitely have hidden depths!

Brilliant! Think I once read a mystery story involving changing the color of a flower…how exciting that you tried it in your own garden!

So pretty. Hydrangeas are among some of my favourite flowers. We planted a couple of them outside the front of our house last year and they are now in full bloom. We’ve been under a heat warning the past few days, so a real snowball actually sounds refreshing!

I like them a lot, too. Glad to hear that your new plants are doing well! Agreed – I can’t believe that a real snowball sounds attractive right now. We’re supposed to get showers today and my weather read is that a cold front is coming your way (that will bring temperatures into the normal range). Stay cool. 😎
