Lavender grows very well in the Okanagan. The soil and weather conditions are rather great for it, so it’s quite prolific.

Not only does it look and smell wonderful, it’s also thought to be a calming and centring element of aromatherapy. I have a small bottle of lavender oil next to my bed; I don’t think it puts me to sleep but it certainly has a fantastic scent!

Lavender does well as a dried plant and you can also cook with it (depending on the type and it also has to be carefully sifted). Given its varied and many uses, it is an extremely versatile plant and it shines at this time of year!
Happy Sunday.
Hi. The main thing I like about lavender is its beautiful color.

I didn’t mention its colour, and you’re right, it’s such an intense shade of purple. So rich.

Beautiful photos! Lavender grows really well where I live, too. We have the Pelindaba Lavender farm and stores nearby, and the last time we visited, we took home spray bottles of lavender air freshener–and we love them!

Thank you very much. I remember when it used to be dismissed as “old lady cologne” but it seems to have made a big comeback. I’m glad it has, because I really like it (or maybe I’m just turning into an old lady 😉). Cheers.

We love the look of the lavender fields in Provence. So nice to find a Provence shop in Granville Island now. You can smell the lavender for blocks. Happy Sunday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. Agreed – sometimes a breeze will carry the scent of it here, too. I’ll check out that shop ina couple of months as we’re doing a weekend trip to Vancouver in September. We were going to visit this month, but have wound up becoming quite busy (busier than we thought) finishing off the consolidation from our northern move. Lots of sorting, donating and re-organising.

They sure do! Lovely to see them humming around in huge numbers. I have hanging flower baskets on my deck and the bees are visiting there, too. Cheers.

I didn’t think of lavender honey. Another lavender advantage!

I couldn’t agree more about how lavender looks and smells fantastic. Plus it helps keep certain bugs away, like mosquitoes.

I forgot about that! Yes, mosquitoes don’t like lavender at all. I learned that one summer in Inuvik (it’s on the Mackenzie Delta 350 km north of the Arctic Circle, so it’s mosquito central) with some lavender spray. The sky was black with them – they were really, really bad, and I remember that someone lent me some. Worked at least as well as Off. Cheers.

Oh gosh that sounds like a thing of nightmares! But it’s good to know that lavender spray works as well as Off. I’d much rather spray that all over my body than the other stuff.

It was nasty. All of us had to spray every 30 mins or so. A very unpleasant memory. Ugh.
