I took this picture with my cell phone, so not the greatest camera for taking photos of the moon, but I like the effect of the aura.

Happy Sunday.

Thanks, Allan. We had a good view of it over the last couple of days but today is really smoky. Would be great to get some rain.

It is a cool effect. I took a few with my good camera, and they didn’t come out as good as yours posted here. I took a couple of zoomed in photos of that full blood moon, and you could see the craters. But I like the look of it from a distance, and I have no idea how to get a shot that shows it the way I see it with my eyes. I like yours, though.

Thank you very much, Lori. I took this photo with my cell phone on zoom. Not the best for moon shots. You could try putting your ISO to base with a small aperture. I use a long lens and a faster shutter speed as well; you might have more control that way. It’s a lot of fun playing around with these pictures, isn’t it? 🙂

It kind of looks like a painting. It’s amazing how bright the moon can appear.

Agreed. There was some smoke from the wildfires as well, so I think that added to the effect. Cheers.

Sometimes a camera’s inability to cope creates a new composition for the scene — I once photographed an Ai Wei Wei installation of meticulously balanced, beautifully geometrically posed, bicycle frames. My poor little camera had hysterics and created doubled images. (Yet my camera was still, as a perfectly frozen flying bird in the sky proved.) I loved the effect, but could never have created it on purpose.

Agreed, Penny. I was just playing around with the zoom on my cell phone but I liked so much the aura around the moon that the camera picked up. You’re very right; I never could have caught that photo on purpose.
