I found these lovely sweet William flower billows in a public garden while out for a ramble. They are also known as dianthus, but sweet William is much more evocative.
They smell as sweet as they look.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen those before. How unique with those rigid edges. I bought two flowering plants for my yard this year and have no idea what they are. They are gorgeous. One of them I found by a search on the internet, the other I still can’t find. I should put up pictures and ask you what they are. 😉 BTW, the one I found is a citrus chrysanthemum. The leaves smell like lemon and the flowers are a vibrant purple.

Sweet Williams would probably be considered old-fashioned now (my mother used to grow them) so I was happy to see these in one of the city gardens. They have a lovely sweet scent, as well, mild and gentle.
Yes, post some pictures. I might know (or not!) or someone else might know. Nice that you have a lovely little mystery. Citrus chrysanthemums will help to keep bugs out of your yard. Mosquitoes in particular don’t like them. Cheers.

Yes. We bought them because the sign said they keep away mosquitos, but we couldn’t find a sign naming what they were. But we love them. They brighten up our patio. Lynette, do you know if they are perennial?

The ones you have are probably perennial (the citrus ones usually are) but generally, chrysanthemums can be both. They are interesting because you can turn an annual into a perennial! I had forgotten about Sweet Williams. I used to have them in my garden years ago. Very nice flowers.

Yes, these are the first I’ve seen in a very long time. I think they fell out of favour so I was happy to see these. They are really very pretty and the scent is lovely.

They are making a comeback after falling out of favour for a long time. My mother used to grow these. They have the most delicate sweet scent.
