Redpoll Finch

The cute little redpoll is a type of finch that is very common in the north.

Their little red “polls” are a tiny flash of colour that is easily recognisable if you’re watching for them. Small but obviously hardy, I’m not sure how they make it through our tough winters.

Happy Friday. 🙂

  1. He is a cutie. We do get finches around here, but sightings are rare and I have never seen this one. Thanks for sharing Lynette. Have a great weekend. Allan

    1. They are known as “common redpolls” and are supposed to be extremely numerous. I have seen lots of them (and especially when I had feeders) but I wouldn’t call them common.

    1. I used to see a lot of them in southern Alberta and I was surprised to see them here as well, but then I discovered that their range is for the most part just Canada both for breeding (Arctic) and wintering. I haven’t seen any in BC although they winter there.
