Ah, candles. This is one angle where Partner and I are completely copacetic. We always have at least one burning when we’re in the house. I love the ambiance…
I used to light a lot of candles in my house–and then wondered why my ceilings were getting dark smudges on them? Good grief. I had no idea that would happen. Now, I light candles judiciously.
My husband liked the softness of them, and that they were natural, compared to harsh electric lights. He liked to light them, and then he’d doze off, lol.
You seem to have a sensitivity to the flickering. The effect of that on the brain is well-documented. I have experienced this with strobe lights. I don’t get a headache, but more a sense that I might pass out – very unpleasant. The tea lights probably don’t bother you because they’re smaller.

Have you tried soy wax candles? I have heard they don’t make as much smoke.

I like candles but I haven’t noticed ceiling smudges. I’ll have to take a look!

diffusers during the day especially in the morning but a lightly scented candle at night, especially in the winter is nice.

Yes, they are especially nice in the winter, although I enjoy them at any time. 🙂

Me too, but I can’t remember wax burning me as a child. I love the mood they set, though.

So do I and my husband! So much so, that I ended up learning to make them so we could always have some on hand, lol. 🙂

You make your own? Wow – that’s nice, and talented, too. 🙂 My husband humours me about the candles; he knows I like them.

plain old Tea Lights. I use them all the time at the cabin. Cheap and easy, about 3 hours burning time.
