Sliding on a Slippery Icy Road

Here is a northern take on Winter Wonderland (my apologies and salutations to Felix Bernard).

Doorbells ring, are you listening?

In the lane, snowplows glistening

A breathtaking sight

We’re trying tonight

To stand up on a slippery icy road

Gone away is the sand truck

Here to stay is a cold front

It screams a north gale

As we plod along

Sliding on a slippery icy road

In the meadow we will build a shelter

And crawl inside to get out of the wind

You’ll say are you freezing

I’ll say not now

But that’s a possibility later on

In a bit, we’ll perspire

As we sit in the fire

We’ll thaw and we’ll stretch

And pretend that winter is all done

That’s quite a feat of self-deluded nonsense

But that’s what happens when you’re freezing cold

When it snows, watch for frostbite

When it blows, get a tissue

We’ll frolic and play, the northern way

Sliding on a slippery icy road.

    BTW…..snowing really hard here at the moment but it’s supposed to turn into rain soon…..so your “poem” comes at the right time 🙂

    1. Thank you! Sometimes, you just have to laugh your way through the cold. 🙂 Things are inevitably going to break down and just not work right.

      Here it’s warmed up to -18, so it’s feeling positively balmy! Supposed to be relatively warm over the next week.

      Are you getting some of that storm that hit Nfld?
      You stay warm too, you southerner. 🙂

        We did get some snow, but nothing compared to NFL !
        Although I have to admit, seeing the news yesterday and
        hearing how unprepared some people were….I mean we
        all knew it was coming days before.

        Maybe it’s because we live completely off the grid….but especially in the winter we’re always stocked up to at least survive for 3-4 weeks.

        Hope you’re doing well and don’t get too much of the white stuff…..you’ve got enough on your plate dealing with the cold !

        1. In Canada, to not be prepared for winter weather in January is, well, rather quixotic. Like you, we can last for probably about a month on our stores. Might get a bit boring, but we won’t be hungry. 🙂
