Inuvik

For the past few days, I’ve been working in Inuvik, NWT, which is at 68° N latitude. It’s very much the home of the all-night sun.

I found these pretty cotton plants.

And purple fire flowers.

And the Mackenzie River, which is so wide that it looks like a lake.

Greetings from the summery far north.

      It’s the second largest delta (after the Amazon) in the western hemisphere – larger than the state of Massachusetts. My photos don’t do it justice at all – so big with so many islands and so much wildlife.

    1. It really is amazing. It’s the second largest delta in the western hemisphere after the Amazon and empties into the Arctic Ocean. Visitors have to go with an experienced and trained guide because of how easily you can get lost. I couldn’t keep track of it at all.

  4. far north! wow! i always wanted to visit Canada’s north side. midnight sun should be wonderful, not so much for sleeping but…, do you live there or only visiting?

    1. I was working there for ten days and didn’t have a lot of time for the regular visitors’ activities. I experienced some though.

      The sun was a problem – it was completely bright all night long and even with blackouts I still had trouble sleeping. I had started to adjust by the time I was ready to leave. 🙂

    1. I am back in the Okanagan now – I was in Inuvik for a twelve-day work assignment. I will be back in the north (in a more southerly part at 60° N latitude) in Sept. The Aurora will be visible at night by then. I’m learning how to take decent photos of it. 🙂
