This sugar maple tree has turned a very classic shade of red.

Since it’s the sugar maple leaf that’s on our flag, I would say that this tree is a rather iconic representation of Canadiana.

Besides gorgeous red leaves in autumn and beautiful lumber, the sugar maples are also known for producing another icon – maple syrup.

I grew up with it and have always enjoyed that luscious sweetness in cookies, cakes and on or in many other things, too.

Sugar maples provide us with so much, both practically and aesthetically, but at the moment, I’m enjoying the amazing gift of this stunningly gorgeous autumn colour.
Happy first Monday of November.
Wow, the colors are beautiful

Happy November to you too. The photos look fabulous 😁. I definitely love maple syrup as well, especially with pancakes 🥞 and other baked goods 🤤.

Thank you very much. 😊 Maple syrup is a wonderful and delicious alternative to other syrups but I don’t consume it very often any more because of the sugar content. Still makes a great treat, though. 😊

Beautiful photos, Lynette! I’ve never heard the word Canadiana. ❤️🇨🇦❤️

Thank you very much, John. 😊 It refers to things, ideas or even people who are distinctively Canadian or representative of our culture. Cheers.

Were the sugar maples brought to the Okanagan? I didn’t think they were native to the interior. We didn’t have them growing up in Manitoba, so I always though they were only east. Maggie

Red maples are apparently native along with several other types but settlers from Québec brought the sugar maples along with them about 120-130 years ago. You can now find them throughout the Okanagan and the Lower Mainland, too. Maple Leaf Spirits here in Penticton even makes a maple syrup liqueur! Cheers.

Lynette, there are a few of these in my neighborhood and they are breathtaking! I’m in awe of the colors and I just wish we could pause time so they would stay adorned and not shed their leaves so quickly. I don’t know if they’re different varieties here but some are orange and and the individual leaves are actually both orange and red or orange/red/yellow. It’s truly amazing.

I agree, Laura. If we could just pause them for a bit to really soak in all that gorgeous colour! I think that’s what makes them so precious, though. They have such a short life and a strong wind can eliminate them overnight. Forces us to slow down, take a few minutes and enjoy them right now.
The orange/red/yellow maple leaves may be red maples which don’t necessarily turn a uniform red in autumn although the sugar maples can show variations across that spectrum, too. 🍁 Cheers.

Such a stunning colour of red. Sugar maples are among some of my favourite coloured leaves in the fall. And who doesn’t enjoy the real maple syrup!? Yum!

Aren’t they stunning? I wish they lasted a bit longer but with all the wind this autumn their cycle was even shorter than usual so I had to enjoy them while I could. And yes, real maple syrup! It’s commonly available and there’s even a distillery nearby that makes maple syrup liqueur!
