Lavender loves the Okanagan Valley weather and has been growing and developing well all summer; it’s now being harvested and sold at shops or markets or it and its products are being processed and packaged for distribution all over the world.

The glorious scent of the lavender stalls at the Penticton market can be detected far and wide.

The bees adore these plants and settle on them in their thousands, it seems. Like humans, they can’t stay away from that beautiful summery perfume and, of course, the lavender nectar.

For a while it was seen as a very old-fashioned fragrance but its sheer loveliness and usefulness has thankfully overcome that stigma.

According to aromatherapy principles and medicinal practice, lavender isn’t just a pretty-smelling face. It’s a very relaxing and calming scent that promotes sleep while a topical application of lavender oil can help heal minor wounds and a lavender tea can calm an upset stomach. Pretty great for such a simple plant.
Happy Thursday.
SO pretty!!
Lavendar doesn’t do well here, but my Russian Sage loooves this hot weather!

Interesting. Lavender loves heat and so I assumed it would do well there. Yes, it’s very pretty, especially the scent. 😊

My strawberries are right next to it and the plants near the lavender don’t get weeded while it’s in bloom.

Yes, I think I would be leaving them alone, too! Best to let the bees do their thing in peace. Cheers.

I can almost smell the lavender through your images. We tried to see the lavender fields kn our recent trip but weren’t able. I didnt know I just had to drive to the Okanagan. We’ll be through that way in a couple weeks, but it will probably too late. Maggie

It’s everywhere here and of course there are quite a few lavender farms around, too. It will probably be mostly gone in about two weeks but I can’t say for sure. There’s a lot of lavender planted in the public rose garden here (it keeps bugs away) and it lasts well into October so you would definitely see it around but likely not big fields. Cheers.

We had a lavender hedge at the house I grew up in. When we moved, the people who moved in promptly dug it up. My parents and I were so sad, even though it was none of our business!

I’m so sorry to hear that but of course you’re right, once the property is sold then it’s out of our hands. A lavender hedge sounds wonderful, though!

It is a stunning plant and it also tends to keep bugs away. Apparently they don’t like the smell, either! 😉

years ago when I was in Penticton for an Ironman,we drove out to Naramata to explore and found an amazing Lavander Farm, lots of colours, I remember I think buildings painted orange and purple, and something called a bear dog?….and yeah, lots and lots of lavander…

There are several out in Naramata but I think the one you’re remembering might be this one: https://www.forestgreenman.com/
It’s the oldest one in the area. I buy their products when I’m wanting some lavender. I don’t know anything about a bear dog, though. 😊
