Thunderstorm Skies

We have been getting lots of thunderstorm warnings recently and certainly they have been all around us with their distant rumbling and even their high winds and rains, but nothing directly up until now. The skies they produce however can be quite amazing as they roil past us. It’s worth noting that I haven’t made any adjustments to the colour of these photos; this is just as the camera (and I) saw those clouds.

The sunset reflects off the white cumulus features of these water-laden clouds …

… spreading an almost eerie glow throughout the whole area …

… that briefly intensified as more towering cumulonimbus clouds moved in. An oddly beautiful sight, but one to be respected.

Happy Monday.

  1. It is the season for big skies Lynette. We were supposed to get some rain yesterday afternoon and this AM, but all we got was the clouds and thunder. Have a great Monday. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan. Yes, I understand. We didn’t get any rain from these clouds either, they just passed through and then it was clear again. It has been quite hot and even though we had quite a good rain Friday night, more rain wouldn’t hurt. Cheers.

        1. We have towering cumulonimbus clouds (those are the thunderstorm clouds) building right now outside our windows, but we’ll see if they deliver a storm or go around us.

    1. Thank you, Linda. The thunderstorms on the prairies often bring hail, so when I lived there it was a matter of worrying about how much damage might be done, but I remember enjoying them when I was a child. No, you haven’t had much rain at all.
