Triplets

I have often seen these three marmots together, surveying their surroundings, snacking on vegetables or just sunning themselves.

They likely are juveniles from last year and probably siblings.

This picture from last June shows the same three – I think – when they were only a couple of months old.

They do like to be together and are very protective of each other, too, although that’s a natural trait of the marmots.

It was a lovely spring day for them to be outside enjoying the weather and surveying their domain.

Happy Wednesday.

    1. Yes, that’s true, especially now. As it gets hotter, they will spend more time outside in the early mornings and evenings but right now there are always at least a few of them outside. They definitely tip the cuteness metre and I think they have a very calming effect on the people to stop to watch them. Years ago I did a lot of hiking in the Canmore/Banff/Lake Louise areas and remember seeing them. Those were a lot more elusive, though.

    1. Yes, you’re right! They do! They tend to accidentally pose a bit because I keep my distance but they sometimes stare intently anyway, I think wondering if I’m going to try to come nearer.

    1. They sure are. I’ve read that that is a general marmot trait and I’ve also observed that they like to be close together, even leaning against one another when they eat. These three have taken that to a different level though as they’re clearly exceptionally bonded.
