A Visit to the Countryside

Recently, we did a leisurely visit to the Similkameen Valley just to the south of us to buy some wine and to admire the orchards and scenery.

Apple and plum nursery orchards.
Heavenly scented apple blossoms …
… and pretty red plum blossoms.
A directional sign post showing the names of a number of Similkameen Valley wineries and cideries with a view of young grape vines in the background.
Spring narcissi greeted us in the forecourt at one of the wineries we visited.

It was a lovely spring day and we also came home with some great wine, too. We have to wait a bit for the fruit, though!

Happy Tuesday.

  1. Looks like a lovely day Lynette. So nice to see the “fruited plain” spread out before you. And even the weather cooperated. Happy election results day. Allan

    1. It was, Allan. A lovely spring and comfortably warm. It was wonderful to see the rejuvenated fruit orchards after the 4-day cold snap in January, 2024 devastated everything (including a number of the farmers and wineries themselves).

Thank you and happy results day to you, too. Closer than I thought it would be and of course Elections Canada suspended the counting so that scrutineers can get some rest so we still have to wait on the possibility of a majority. Fingers crossed. Pierre and Jagmeet lost their seats.

      1. Stopping the counting for sleep!! How Canadian. As to Pierre, a lot of people did not trust him to be much different than Mr. T. Jagmeet and his party paid the price for being king makers for Justin. I do hope for majority territory, so good works can be accomplished. 🍁🍁🍁

        1. Yes, very Canadian. I like that about us. Agreed, Pierre’s personal popularity was in the basement and Jagmeet paid for Justin’s king-making as well as all that dithering he did. He’s a decent man but really brought this on himself to a large extent. I also think people were trying to avoid vote splits although that happened anyway. I hope we get a majority too as I want some stability and not the Tories yipping on about another election. Cheers.

  2. Now we have to wait and see how quickly Queen Daniel will push for separation. I wish there was a way to kick her out. At leas cracks are starting to appear in the Unite Clown Posse wall.

    1. Hi Allan, I saw that she’s already whining about it. A recent Legér poll shows that 86% of Albertans are “proud to be Canadian” one of the highest positive response levels in the country. She needs to shut up and stick that crown somewhere. Glad to hear that the Clown Posse is starting to see cracks.

  3. What a wonderful day out, and wine to celebrate last night? I was worried as soon as I saw the Nfld results, but we’ll see how it ends up today (I hope). I think Alberta had more liberal votes than ever, even though not many seats, but it showed that the separation sentiment is not as strong as some think. Have a great day Lynette! Maggie

    1. We did have a wonderful day out and celebrated with a lovely rosé from the Similkameen – although it would have been better with a majority which I still hope materialises. I read that Legér recently did a poll for the Association of Canadian Studies which shows that 86% of Albertans are “proud to be Canadian,” so that separation sentiment that Smith and Manning keep threatening and trying to stir up doesn’t really exist, I would say.
      Thanks, Maggie, you too!

    1. Thank you very much, Tricia. 😊 Isn’t it great to live in wine country? Our community is right next to another wine area called the “Naramata Bench” which has some of our favourites; those wines have a much different grape and taste profile than other areas such as the Similkameen. We always enjoy doing some exploration every spring and autumn.

      Merci beaucoup! 😊

      1. Sounds lovely. We would love to explore that area sometime soon. We live near the Willamette Valley and Columbia Gorge regions which also have delicious wines. Like you, we love visiting those regions in the spring and autumn. I hope you have a wonderful day!

    1. I couldn’t agree more, 60. Removing them will displace much (but not all) of the damage caused by the Trump tariffs by increasing productivity, lowering prices and adding something like 200 billion to our economy. But it seems provincial politicians are addicted to them since they’re such useful political tools. We may have to pressure our premiers to ensure they go through with removing them. The whole country should have good access to BC wines! Cheers. 🥂

    1. We had a good day and it was great to see that the orchards, farms and wineries are doing so well this year after last year’s killing cold snap that was then followed by another spring and summery of drought. We found a small winery producing a lovely rosé – the Similkameen Valley is known for the quality of its rosés. So yes, we found a tasty one! Cheers. 🥂
