When it becomes more difficult for our local duck flock to find food, we like to help them a bit with some cooked quinoa. Unlike bread, it’s a healthy choice for them. M recently prepared lots of it in individual bags that we can easily distribute to our duckie friends.

Well organised in a freezer drawer, he has very helpfully labelled it “quack.”

Quackers or not, the ducks love it and aren’t shy about gobbling it down!

I wish you a very duckie day. 😊
Looks like M has his ducks in a row with the prepared quinoa. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist). Great idea too.

No wonder there are so many ducks! It certainly looks like they’re enjoying the quinoa!

Linda, the pictures don’t even show a third of the number. It’s a huge flock of about 100 or so. I’m January when the food pickings are very lean, I almost get mobbed when I drop off food!

At this time of year, it must be difficult for wildlife to find food. We had that thought when we were in Jasper, wondering what the deer, elk and sheep would find to eat in the burned landscape. There will be a few hard years to come. Happy Sunday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. I really sometimes wonder how they can manage to survive but of course, many don’t, especially if they’re not in prime condition. I hope most of them have abandoned the damaged areas for now. A good sign of recovery could be their return.

I ask people to not feed ducks any bread as it has no nutritional value for them. My sister, the life-long birder suggests feeding them frozen peas which are much better for them and they love them. Great photos! I see two Rock Pigeons in there too, flying rats they be… 😂

Those pigeons are everywhere all over the world, it seems. I’ve seen some people feeding the ducks peas, as well. I think they get some good eats from their human friends and the city feeds them too if it gets very cold. It’s unfortunate that some people still don’t understand that bread isn’t good for them (or for the carp in the fish pond).

I have seen those pigeons in other bloggers’ photos on every continent it seems, Lynette. That’s a very successful specie!

I absolutely love M’s label. I hope other things in your freezer have similar labels 🙂

M has such a good sense of humour and always surprises me with great texts and yes, labels. I had a good chuckle when I opened the freezer drawer and saw it. 😊

That is so thoughtful of you, Lynette. I’m glad you know about bread and how useless it is for feeding birds. These quackers should do well with your help.

Thank you very much, Anneli. 😊 Lots of people stop to give them very healthy things to eat but of course, there are still those who don’t realise that bread isn’t good for them.

You can put the falling snow motif on your blog too, if you would like. It’s under settings, general. Cheers.
