Quack!

When it becomes more difficult for our local duck flock to find food, we like to help them a bit with some cooked quinoa. Unlike bread, it’s a healthy choice for them. M recently prepared lots of it in individual bags that we can easily distribute to our duckie friends.

Well organised in a freezer drawer, he has very helpfully labelled it “quack.”

Quackers or not, the ducks love it and aren’t shy about gobbling it down!

I wish you a very duckie day. 😊

  1. At this time of year, it must be difficult for wildlife to find food. We had that thought when we were in Jasper, wondering what the deer, elk and sheep would find to eat in the burned landscape. There will be a few hard years to come. Happy Sunday Lynette. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan. I really sometimes wonder how they can manage to survive but of course, many don’t, especially if they’re not in prime condition. I hope most of them have abandoned the damaged areas for now. A good sign of recovery could be their return.

  2. I ask people to not feed ducks any bread as it has no nutritional value for them. My sister, the life-long birder suggests feeding them frozen peas which are much better for them and they love them. Great photos! I see two Rock Pigeons in there too, flying rats they be… 😂

    1. Those pigeons are everywhere all over the world, it seems. I’ve seen some people feeding the ducks peas, as well. I think they get some good eats from their human friends and the city feeds them too if it gets very cold. It’s unfortunate that some people still don’t understand that bread isn’t good for them (or for the carp in the fish pond).
