Windy Victoria

We awoke to a very windy day. The ocean was extremely churned up and lots of surf was being flung about.

With the gale gusting to about 80 km (50 mi) we definitely needed raincoats against the wind-whipped spray.

Although it was windy the temperature was about 9C (48F) and it wasn’t raining, so in a good windbreaker/raincoat, I was comfortable.

I found a group of periwinkle flowers growing in a rock garden next to the ocean, but despite being soaked by seawater they seemed completely unperturbed.

I very much enjoyed watching the surf and listening to its pounding roar – the heart of all life on earth.

Happy Sunday.

  1. A real storm tossed sea Lynette, quite something for the Victoria side. Looks like it really wreaked havoc in the area. Glad we are not lined up for a ferry. Happy Sunday. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan. It was incredibly windy with some rain, too, but it didn’t get lower than about 9. Although the morning ferries were all cancelled yesterday, ours at 3pm ran. It was a bit wallowy coming into Tsawwassen but otherwise it was fine. Very packed though with people trying to get over after cancelled flights and the earlier cancelled ferries. Cheers.

    1. Hi Maggie, yes, it is. The wind became very strong with gusts up to 120 km or so during the night. Surprisingly, we saw little damage the next day in the area where we were staying (Oak Bay). We did take the ferry back yesterday. All the morning sailings were cancelled but we were booked for 3 pm and the wind and waves had dropped quite a lot by then and we were able to go. We were wallowing a bit coming into Tsawwassen but the crossing was otherwise fine. Thanks for asking.

          1. As a kid I raced the Sunfish and the Laser smaller class sailboats on the lake we grew up on. Capsising was sure to happen. Hike out very far, Captain!

    1. Thank you very much, Belinda. 😊 I didn’t see anyone out there but I noticed that the beaches and seawall were being patrolled, I think to stop people from going out (or at least that’s what it looked like).
