National Geographic has released its pictures of the year, including this amazing shot of penguins getting ready to follow one of their number into the ocean from an incredibly high ice sheet.

Happy Thursday.
Amazing!! I bet it hurts when they hit the water.

It doesn’t seem to bother them at all; they have such an urge to go to the sea. They apparently spend months at a time in the ocean, only coming ashore to breed or moult.

For sure! They apparently are good at eluding them – I guess as a penguin you would have to be – and will stay in the ocean for months at a time. Amazing.
