We took an evening walk …

… and returned late enough to see the almost half-moon rising above the mountains. Since I used my cell to take the picture, the moon’s edges aren’t very defined, but I like the photo despite that drawback, especially the sky’s blue tint.

Happy Wednesday.

Looks like a nice evening outing. We are getting Benji out for sunset walks, but they are so early these days and about to get earlier with return to Standard Time. Happy Wednesday. Allan

Thank you very much. It was lovely, Allan. We had a low of zero last night but the evening temperatures have been very comfortable. Yes, we’re about to do our change soon. I am one of those people who thinks that we should stay on standard time year-round.

I am with you. Sunrise in our area is near 9 AM in December. Having it near 10 AM would be unbearable. We need morning light to get our circadian rhythm going.

Agreed, Allan. Of course, there are those with a lot of pull who are “invested” in having permanent daylight. Ugh.

Great captures. The moon is always hard with a cell phone to get a good shot.

Thanks, Bernie. Cell phones have surprisingly good cameras that are perfectly fine for many situations, but agreed, they really fail with night shots. I don’t usually carry my camera at night unless I am specifically planning to do night photos, so the best I had along was the cell. I liked the way the moon was shining on the water. Cheers.

That’s what I liked best about this scene, too. It was too bad that I didn’t have my camera along.

I like it as well. It looks like a beautiful evening with the moon so bright. Love the shimmer of moonlight in the water as well.

It was, Linda. I was sorry not to have my real camera along but I think there’s a sense of how pretty the scene was. My favourite part is also the moonlight on the water. Cheers.

Nice shots. I also love how the glow of the moon leaves that bright spot on the water.
I tried to take photos of the Hunter’s moon last week with my good camera, but I couldn’t get it to define the moon. I don’t know what I was doing wrong. It just looked like a blurry glowing ball and not the moon. 🤷♀️

Hi Lori, thank you very much. 😊 The light on the water is so pretty.
Often the issue with moon pictures is the shutter speed. My picture also shows a blurry glowing ball and that’s because iphone cameras don’t have shutter speed adjustments. Although the moon looks stationary to us on the ground, it’s actually moving along at a good clip, so I would say 1/15 or more should work (even up to 1/250). You could try an aperture of f/11 or f/16. If you have a clear night you could experiment a bit since there’s a half-moon right now. Good luck!

The moon is often hard to capture, but you succeeded and the resulting photo is stunning!

Thank you very much, Tricia. I really wish I had had my proper camera with me but c’est la vie. The moon is rather blurry but I like the light on the lake. Cheers. 😊
