M and I have been meandering along Ontario’s south coast at Lake Erie, where we visited one of M’s favourite spots from his time living in Toronto.

Long Point is a large sandbar that has fabulous beaches, many summer (and also year-round) homes, and at its southern tip, a UNESCO world heritage site protecting birds, butterflies and a number of types of plants and trees. It also contains North America’s oldest bird observatory.

We went walking along one of Long Point’s famous beaches. Although there were lots of people about and the sun was shining, it was almost completely deserted since the wind off the lake was quite cold.

A lone kite-surfer had good conditions but he must have been chilly!

We nevertheless had a good walk and enjoyed this unique area.
Looks good there. I imagine it does get busy though in better weather?

It apparently becomes very busy, Liz, as this is a very popular beach. The weather on our trip hasn’t been great. It’s much cooler here than in the west with more rain, too.

Easy to see how it got its name Lynette. I can see why it was one of M’s favourite places. Looks cool though. Happy Wednesday. Allan

Thanks, Allan. M used to love to visit as you can walk in the beach for 15 km. People in Ontario have been complaining about a late, cool spring and we’ve certainly seen quite a lot of rain, too. Too bad that the hot dry north isn’t getting some of this!

It looks beautiful. It must have been nice to have the beach to yourself despite the cold wind!

It is a very gorgeous beach and yes, nice to walk along without encountering many others. Further on there were a couple of children playing in the water. I don’t know how they did it with that cold wind!

It’s a very long, beautiful beach, great for walking (although the sand will give your calf muscles a workout!). 😊

We used to go camping at Long Point all the time when I was a kid. Even though it was a bit chilly, glad you managed to go for a stroll along the beautiful beach.

That must have wonderful camping there as a child! That beach is a child’s dream: all that sand and such a big beach, too. Yes, we were glad to walk even if it was chilly.
