I was recently thinking about where I was this time last year, both literally and figuratively.

2023

I loved working in the Northwest Territories, but I am happy to be where I am now – a lot warmer, whether that’s Dominicana or Penticton.

Is this a permanent move or a vacation? It looks lovely.

I worked in the Northwest Territories for six years while maintaining a home in British Columbia. I retired at the end of October and then went to the Caribbean for a month. I’m back home in BC now, so yes, a permanent move. Yay! 🙂

Congratulations Lynette. The aim of a career is always to survive and get out alive. You managed to do that. Enjoy what you’ve worked for, doo all the things you seldom had time for, including sittin’ around doin’ nuthin’. Happy retirement and Happy Saturday. Allan

Thank you very much, Allan. When I think about last November, retirement still seemed so far away and I was tired of working; it was definitely time for me to go. So yes, survive and get out alive! I got there! The idea that we can get up and do what we want is still such a novelty, though I hope I always maintain a bit of that excitement. Thanks for your support, Allan. Cheers.

Talk about a difference! I wouldn’t miss all that shovelling 😏

I definitely don’t! It rains a lot here in the winter, but you don’t have to shovel it! 😉

If you ever have doubts about retirement, just haul out that first snowy photo and you’ll feel better about where you are now.

I like your idea! Agreed – all I have to do is look at that photo. I remember that morning very well and the shovelling I had to do to get out the door!

I don’t miss those childhood years in Dawson Creek at all. So often I had frozen fingers and toes and they hurt more to thaw out than to be frozen.

I’ve had frostbite in my feet a few times. Agreed – so painful when they’re warming up and then they’re forever hypersensitive to the cold (or even the cool). I bet you don’t miss those years at all!

You’re so right about the hypersensitivity to cold. And no, I don’t miss those years a bit.

I’m happy to be away from it too. Cheers.

Ah, I remember the November saga of icicles in the eaves! we watched them grow (and grow and grow) along with you

At least I’m not still living it. 😉 The snow ridges and icicles along the eaves really were something and yes, surely belonged in a saga. 🙂 Cheers.

That’s quite the drastic change in weather and scenery! Glad to hear you’re happy with where you’re at. That’s how you know you made the right choice to move!

Thanks, Linda. We are definitely very happy here and yes, a big weather and scenery difference. So much to do outside year-round; we like it a lot. I hope you are feeling well. Cheers.
