In the last couple of weeks I’ve noticed that sometimes, my “likes” on some posts are disappearing. If I go back to “like” a second or even a third time, it will drop again a few minutes later. It then appears as if I haven’t clicked “like” at all.
This is extremely irritating as you can imagine, especially when you’re trying to let people know you appreciate what they have posted.

In the time it has taken for me to write this short bit, the likes I have left on others’ posts have dropped or disappeared, specifically from Renard, Mr. Muse and Travels Through My Lens. So if you haven’t seen my likes show up, it’s not for lack of trying. It’s because there’s some sort of WP glitch going on.
Are you experiencing any “likes” issues?
I’ve noticed my likes have gone down as well but they were likely never as high as yours .

Hi Laura, thanks for commenting. I’m having trouble with clicking “like” on the posts of others. They seem to work at first but then drop or disappear. When I look again a few minutes later, it seems as if I haven’t “liked” the post at all. So frustrating. 🤪

Are you on a device (phone/iPad?) or a laptop? Also, are you using the Jetpack app? Just wondering because when I first started using it I felt like my likes went up but now they’re down again. 🤷🏼♀️

I use both an iPhone and a SurfacePro laptop with Jetpack. The mode doesn’t seem to make a difference. I can click like on a post and 20 mins later it’s as if I didn’t. So strange.

No idea 🤷🏼♀️ You might want to contact them, I recently spoke to someone about the app.

Yes! I’ve noticed the same. When reading in Reader, sometimes I flip over to Discover and see posts that I previously read and liked, no longer liked. Normally I wouldn’t notice.

That is exactly what had happened to me! I flip to Discover and see that posts I’ve read and liked no longer show as such. It’s so strange!

Oh yes. For a long while now.

For a long time! Wow! WP needs to deal with that glitch. I will be letting them know about it tomorrow.

I checked back over your last 5 days of posts, and all my Likes” are still there. As for my blog, my posts usually receive 40 or more likes within a few days — too many to keep track of, so I hadn’t even noticed that your “Likes’ disappeared. I’m not surprised, though –over the years, I’ve found it’s not unusual for WordPress to make changes or do things without notice. I don’t like it, but I’ve learned to live with it because the few times I’ve tried to get an explanation, I’ve found that it’s not worth the hassle

Thank you very much Mr. M. for taking the time to do that. Much appreciated. Today I clicked “like” on your latest post 6 times. Each time I later noticed that the “like” indicator wasn’t lit.
Agreed. WP does most changes without notice, but a commenter above (Cindy Knoke) said that it’s been happening “for a long while.” Tomorrow I’m going to contact the happiness engineers to let them know about this but you might be right that it’s not worth the hassle. Ugh. Irritating. 😏

I don’t recall seeing any of my “likes” disappearing. What I have seen is the like box not loading on non-WP blogs and a little spinner not finishing the load. I am able to like the posts on the Reader but not directly through a mail notification.

Thanks for your input, Steve. I’ve noticed the issue on both WP and Jetpack and it seems to be quickly accelerating as most of my likes are not holding. I’ve liked one of your recent posts multiple times already. I think it’s time for the happiness engineers to do a fix!

🤔 This a glitch that I have only seen with the Jetpack mobile app.
However, in my case, things appear to be normal when I visit WordPress directly via my laptop computer.

Thanks for your feedback, Renard. I agree that it’s definitely a problem on Jetpack but when I went directly to WP I saw that it was happening there as well, just not as badly.
This issue on the mobile app has really accelerated over the past 16 or so hours.

I have seen the same thing and even weirder when I see my posts in Reader (on laptop) and I know I have gotten 7 likes but only 2 show up, then it jumps to 7 ands then back to 4. I guess WordPress is busy “improving” the product. Allan

I have experienced this as well. It’s worse on the Jetpack app but WP is showing it, too. I’ve sent an email to the happiness engineers about these weirdisms.

I first saw this happen yesterday. When I hold my cursor over the “like” icon it will show more likes than what it previously showed (5 likes becomes 9 likes all of the sudden), and my like will be back without me having to like the post again.

Yes, I’ve noticed similar oddities, too. The Jetpack app is quite bad but WP is also showing the same issue. I’ve sent an email to the happiness engineers (I hope others have, too) so maybe there will soon be a fix.

Hey Lynette; I haven’t noticed that, but every once in a while the comments I make on the posts of other bloggers disappear, which is quite annoying. I’ll keep an eye out, but on my end, your likes haven’t disappeared.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Thanks for your feedback. The disappearing comments are usually because the blogger has set all comments for moderation before they’re posted (usually these bloggers have been bothered by trolls at some point). On those blogs, I’ve noticed that I can briefly see my comment before it – poof – hides in etherland until the blogger approves and posts it.

It seems like once a comment is approved future comments are automatically approved, but not always. WordPress has some quirks for sure.
LikeLiked by 1 person
No, not always. You can have all your comments go to moderation if you wish, though. They would be set to individual approval even after it’s someone you’ve approved before.

I can’t say if I’ve experienced it this time around, but I can say that this seems to happen with WP on a semi-regular basis – every couple years or so. They’ll probably get it addressed soon, once more people let them know about it. 🙂

Thank you very much for your input.
I agree. Once enough people email about it, WP will address it. It’s maybe a bit of a bit picky point, but I think it’s important to let people know their posts resonate, even if you don’t have anything in particular to say about it in a comment.

I just noticed that several posts that I had liked previously showed up out of order.
First time I’ve noticed that…

Thank you, Allan. That has started happening with me as well.
I have contacted the “happiness engineers” who said that the problem is likely with me and told me to try a number of things, including deleting the Jetpack app and re-installing it. I’ve tried all their suggestions now but nothing has worked. I’ve emailed them back with that info. I hope they fix the glitch as it seems there are quite a few people experiencing this problem or others that seem related to it.

I just found a post that was marked as a ‘like’ of mine, that when you view the list of likes, doesn’t include me.
Also found one that showed no ‘like’, but that had me included in the list of likes. (One that I had previously liked.)

Thanks for letting me know, Allan. I’ve experienced these issues as well (they’re still happening). No like, but I’m in the list; a like, but I’m not in the list. It’s worse with the Jetpack app but also happens with the regular WP as well. This really needs to be attended to. Quite irritating.

I’ve been communicating with the “happiness engineers” about this so I hope they do a fix. Given that it seems like a fairly common problem, they really do need to deal with it.

I’ve had this happen before, along with some other strange things. I had it once where whenever I hit the “l” button on my keyboard when writing up a comment, it would automatically like a post, then unlike it the next time I used the “l” button. I ended up having to switch to another browser for a few days before the issue resolved itself.

That’s such a strange glitch! I’ve emailed the “happiness engineers” and have followed their advice on how to correct this – including deleting the Jetpack app and reinstalling it – but the like feature still isn’t working properly.
Yesterday I watched as a couple of times I “liked” a post that I hadn’t even opened and certainly hadn’t clicked the “like” button. AI is probably taking over. 😉 Given the number of people indicating that they have had issues with this, WP really should get on it.

I was thinking I’m the only person that’s experiencing this 🤔, I don’t know what should be the cause of disappearing”LIKE”. Mine have been disappearing after “liked”.
LikeLike
Nope, you’re definitely not the only one! Actually, mine more correctly disappear after I have clicked the “like” button, so yes, it’s vanishing after “liked.” But adding to the confusion is that sometimes, if I check the list of bloggers who have liked the post, my name will be there, even though my “like” doesn’t show. So irritating!

So what should we do in this case ?

I did some complaining to the “happiness engineers” who initially bounced the ball back in my court and told me I needed to clear my cache, delete and reinstall Jetpack, etc.
I followed their instructions but was certain the issue is with WP and when the problem persisted, went back and said that I had tried their fixes without success. The issue has now dropped off. It’s still occasionally happening, but much less so.
I would suggest doing the same (you will have to get past their help bot as well) as WP should be attending more to the glitches that occur. Cheers.

Like generally works, as far as I can tell, although often not when I want to “like” a comment. Today, ;when I send a comment, it doesn’t seem to go through, so we’ll see if you get this! I don’t have time to bother a lot about it, though.

For me at least, this issue seems to have improved a lot, although it was gradual. It seems to be common for people to be experiencing all kinds of little glitchy bits. Very annoying in my opinion as WP should be working better than that.
